2024-03-26iotests: add test for stream job with an unaligned prefetch readFiona Ebner
Previously, bdrv_pad_request() could not deal with a NULL qiov when a read needed to be aligned. During prefetch, a stream job will pass a NULL qiov. Add a test case to cover this scenario. By accident, also covers a previous race during shutdown, where block graph changes during iteration in bdrv_flush_all() could lead to unreferencing the wrong block driver state and an assertion failure later. iotest 114 uses "truncate" and the qcow2.py script on the destination file, which both cannot deal with URIs. 2024-03-18qemu-img: Fix Column Width and Improve Formatting in snapshot listAbhiram Tilak
When running the command `qemu-img snapshot -l SNAPSHOT` the output of VM_CLOCK (measures the offset between host and VM clock) cannot to accommodate values in the order of thousands (4-digit). This line [1] hints on the problem. Additionally, the column width for the VM_CLOCK field was reduced from 15 to 13 spaces in commit b39847a5 in line [2], resulting in a shortage of space. 2024-03-18iotests: Add test for reset/AioContext switches with NBD exportsKevin Wolf
This replicates the scenario in which the bug was reported. Unfortunately this relies on actually executing a guest (so that the firmware initialises the virtio-blk device and moves it to its configured iothread), so this can't make use of the qtest accelerator like most other test cases. I tried to find a different easy way to trigger the bug, but couldn't find one. 2024-02-15iotests: Make 144 deterministic againKevin Wolf
Since commit effd60c8 changed how QMP commands are processed, the order of the block-commit return value and job events in iotests 144 wasn't fixed and more and caused the test to fail intermittently. Change the test to cache events first and then print them in a predefined order. Waiting three times for JOB_STATUS_CHANGE is a bit uglier than just waiting for the JOB_STATUS_CHANGE that has "status": "ready", but the tooling we have doesn't seem to allow the latter easily. 2024-02-07iotests: fix leak of tmpdir in dry-run modeDaniel P. Berrangé
Creating an instance of the 'TestEnv' class will create a temporary directory. This dir is only deleted, however, in the __exit__ handler invoked by a context manager. In dry-run mode, we don't use the TestEnv via a context manager, so were leaking the temporary directory. 2024-01-26monitor: only run coroutine commands in qemu_aio_contextStefan Hajnoczi
monitor_qmp_dispatcher_co() runs in the iohandler AioContext that is not polled during nested event loops. The coroutine currently reschedules itself in the main loop's qemu_aio_context AioContext, which is polled during nested event loops. One known problem is that QMP device-add calls drain_call_rcu(), which temporarily drops the BQL, leading to all sorts of havoc like other vCPU threads re-entering device emulation code while another vCPU thread is waiting in device emulation code with aio_poll(). Paolo Bonzini suggested running non-coroutine QMP handlers in the iohandler AioContext. This avoids trouble with nested event loops. His original idea was to move coroutine rescheduling to monitor_qmp_dispatch(), but I resorted to moving it to qmp_dispatch() because we don't know if the QMP handler needs to run in coroutine context in monitor_qmp_dispatch(). monitor_qmp_dispatch() would have been nicer since it's associated with the monitor implementation and not as general as qmp_dispatch(), which is also used by qemu-ga. A number of qemu-iotests need updated .out files because the order of QMP events vs QMP responses has changed. Solves Issue #1933. 2024-01-26iotests: port 141 to Python for reliable QMP testingStefan Hajnoczi
The common.qemu bash functions allow tests to interact with the QMP monitor of a QEMU process. I spent two days trying to update 141 when the order of the test output changed, but found it would still fail occassionally because printf() and QMP events race with synchronous QMP communication. I gave up and ported 141 to the existing Python API for QMP tests. The Python API is less affected by the order in which QEMU prints output because it does not print all QMP traffic by default. The next commit changes the order in which QMP messages are received. Make 141 reliable first. This tests two parallel stream jobs that will complete around the same time and run on two different disks in the same iothreads. It is loosely based on the bug report at https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-1761. For me, this test hangs reliably with the originally reported bug in blk_remove_bs(). After fixing it, it intermittently hangs for the bugs fixed after it, missing AioContext unlocking in bdrv_graph_wrunlock() and in stream_prepare(). The deadlocks seem to happen more frequently when the test directory is on tmpfs. One part of the test is using a throttled source to ensure that there are no obvious issues when changing the copy_mode while there are ongoing requests (source and target images are compared at the very end). The other part of the test is using a throttled target to ensure that the change to active mode actually happened. This is done by hitting the throttling limit, issuing a synchronous write and then immediately verifying the target side. QSD is used, because otherwise, a synchronous write would hang there. To start out, only actively-synced is returned. For example, this is useful for jobs that started out in background mode and switched to active mode. Once actively-synced is true, it's clear that the mode switch has been completed. Note that completion of the switch might happen much earlier, e.g. if the switch happens before the job is ready, once all background operations have finished. It's assumed that whether the disks are actively-synced or not is more interesting than whether the mode switch completed. That information can still be added if required in the future. In presence of an iothread, the actively_synced member is now shared between the iothread and the main thread, so turn accesses to it atomic. Requires to adapt the output for iotest 109. The test cases considered so far: 314 (new test suite): 1. Check that compression mode isn't compatible with "-f raw" (raw format doesn't support compression). 2. Check that rebasing an image onto no backing file preserves the data and writes the copied clusters actually compressed. 3. Same as 2, but with a raw backing file (i.e. the clusters copied from the backing are originally uncompressed -- we check they end up compressed after being merged). 4. Remove a single delta from a backing chain, perform the same checks as in 2. 5. Check that even when backing and overlay are initially uncompressed, copied clusters end up compressed when rebase with compression is performed. 271: 1. Check that when target image has subclusters, rebase with compression will make an entire cluster containing the written subcluster compressed.
