2024-03-12bulk: Access existing variables initialized to &S->F when availablePhilippe Mathieu-Daudé
When a variable is initialized to &struct->field, use it in place. Rationale: while this makes the code more concise, this also helps static analyzers. Mechanical change using the following Coccinelle spatch script: @@ type S, F; identifier s, m, v; @@ S *s; ... F *v = &s->m; <+... - &s->m + v ...+> Inspired-by: Zhao Liu <zhao1.liu@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Philippe Mathieu-Daudé <philmd@linaro.org> Message-ID: <20240129164514.73104-2-philmd@linaro.org> Acked-by: Fabiano Rosas <farosas@suse.de> Reviewed-by: Zhao Liu <zhao1.liu@intel.com> Reviewed-by: Anthony PERARD <anthony.perard@citrix.com> [thuth: Dropped hunks that need a rebase, and fixed sizeof() in pmu_realize()] Signed-off-by: Thomas Huth <thuth@redhat.com>
2024-01-26target/arm: Move GTimer definitions to new 'gtimer.h' headerPhilippe Mathieu-Daudé
Move Arm A-class Generic Timer definitions to the new "target/arm/gtimer.h" header so units in hw/ which don't need access to ARMCPU internals can use them without having to include the huge "cpu.h". 2024-01-08system/cpus: rename qemu_mutex_lock_iothread() to bql_lock()Stefan Hajnoczi
The Big QEMU Lock (BQL) has many names and they are confusing. The actual QemuMutex variable is called qemu_global_mutex but it's commonly referred to as the BQL in discussions and some code comments. The locking APIs, however, are called qemu_mutex_lock_iothread() and qemu_mutex_unlock_iothread(). The "iothread" name is historic and comes from when the main thread was split into into KVM vcpu threads and the "iothread" (now called the main loop thread). I have contributed to the confusion myself by introducing a separate --object iothread, a separate concept unrelated to the BQL. The "iothread" name is no longer appropriate for the BQL. Rename the locking APIs to: - void bql_lock(void) - void bql_unlock(void) - bool bql_locked(void) There are more APIs with "iothread" in their names. Subsequent patches will rename them. There are also comments and documentation that will be updated in later patches. 2023-08-22accel/kvm: Specify default IPA size for arm64Akihiko Odaki
Before this change, the default KVM type, which is used for non-virt machine models, was 0. The kernel documentation says: > On arm64, the physical address size for a VM (IPA Size limit) is > limited to 40bits by default. The limit can be configured if the host > supports the extension KVM_CAP_ARM_VM_IPA_SIZE. When supported, use > KVM_VM_TYPE_ARM_IPA_SIZE(IPA_Bits) to set the size in the machine type > identifier, where IPA_Bits is the maximum width of any physical > address used by the VM. The IPA_Bits is encoded in bits[7-0] of the > machine type identifier. > > e.g, to configure a guest to use 48bit physical address size:: > > vm_fd = ioctl(dev_fd, KVM_CREATE_VM, KVM_VM_TYPE_ARM_IPA_SIZE(48)); > > The requested size (IPA_Bits) must be: > > == ========================================================= > 0 Implies default size, 40bits (for backward compatibility) > N Implies N bits, where N is a positive integer such that, > 32 <= N <= Host_IPA_Limit > == ========================================================= > Host_IPA_Limit is the maximum possible value for IPA_Bits on the host > and is dependent on the CPU capability and the kernel configuration. > The limit can be retrieved using KVM_CAP_ARM_VM_IPA_SIZE of the > KVM_CHECK_EXTENSION ioctl() at run-time. > > Creation of the VM will fail if the requested IPA size (whether it is > implicit or explicit) is unsupported on the host. https://docs.kernel.org/virt/kvm/api.html#kvm-create-vm So if Host_IPA_Limit < 40, specifying 0 as the type will fail. This actually confused libvirt, which uses "none" machine model to probe the KVM availability, on M2 MacBook Air. 2023-08-22kvm: Introduce kvm_arch_get_default_type hookAkihiko Odaki
kvm_arch_get_default_type() returns the default KVM type. This hook is particularly useful to derive a KVM type that is valid for "none" machine model, which is used by libvirt to probe the availability of KVM. For MIPS, the existing mips_kvm_type() is reused. This function ensures the availability of VZ which is mandatory to use KVM on the current QEMU. This reverts commit b320e21c48ce64853904bea6631c0158cc2ef227, which accidentally broke TCG, because it made the TCG -cpu max report the presence of MTE to the guest even if the board hadn't enabled MTE by wiring up the tag RAM. This meant that if the guest then tried to use MTE QEMU would segfault accessing the non-existent tag RAM: ==346473==ERROR: UndefinedBehaviorSanitizer: SEGV on unknown address (pc 0x55f328952a4a bp 0x00000213a400 sp 0x7f7871859b80 T346476) ==346473==The signal is caused by a READ memory access. ==346473==Hint: this fault was caused by a dereference of a high value address (see register values below). Revert the whole commit for now so we can sort out the issues. (We didn't catch this in CI because we have no test cases in avocado that use guests with MTE support.) 2023-05-18arm/kvm: add support for MTECornelia Huck
Extend the 'mte' property for the virt machine to cover KVM as well. For KVM, we don't allocate tag memory, but instead enable the capability. If MTE has been enabled, we need to disable migration, as we do not yet have a way to migrate the tags as well. Therefore, MTE will stay off with KVM unless requested explicitly. 2023-04-20target/arm: Initialize debug capabilities only onceAkihiko Odaki
kvm_arm_init_debug() used to be called several times on a SMP system as kvm_arch_init_vcpu() calls it. Move the call to kvm_arch_init() to make sure it will be called only once; otherwise it will overwrite pointers to memory allocated with the previous call and leak it. 2022-10-10target/arm/kvm: Retry KVM_CREATE_VM call if it fails EINTRPeter Maydell
Occasionally the KVM_CREATE_VM ioctl can return EINTR, even though there is no pending signal to be taken. In commit 94ccff13382055 we added a retry-on-EINTR loop to the KVM_CREATE_VM call in the generic KVM code. Adopt the same approach for the use of the ioctl in the Arm-specific KVM code (where we use it to create a scratch VM for probing for various things). 2022-10-10kvm: allow target-specific accelerator propertiesPaolo Bonzini
Several hypervisor capabilities in KVM are target-specific. When exposed to QEMU users as accelerator properties (i.e. -accel kvm,prop=value), they should not be available for all targets. Add a hook for targets to add their own properties to -accel kvm, for now no such property is defined. 2022-07-29kvm: don't use perror() without useful errnoCornelia Huck
perror() is designed to append the decoded errno value to a string. This, however, only makes sense if we called something that actually sets errno prior to that. For the callers that check for split irqchip support that is not the case, and we end up with confusing error messages that end in "success". Use error_report() instead.
