config_targetos is now empty and can be removed; its use in sourcesets
that do not involve target-specific files can be replaced with an empty
dictionary.
In fact, at this point *all* sourcesets that do not involve
target-specific files are just glorified mutable arrays. Enforce that
they never test for symbols in "when:" by computing the set of files
without "strict: false".

In the QEMU QMP Reference Manual, subsection "Block core (VM
unrelated)" is empty. Its contents is at the end of subsection
"Background jobs" instead. That's because qapi/job.json is included
first from qapi/block-core.json, which makes qapi/job.json's
documentation go between qapi/block-core.json's subsection heading and
contents.
In the QEMU Storage Daemon QMP Reference Manual, section "Block
Devices" contains nothing but an empty subsection "Block core (VM
unrelated)". The latter's contents is at the end section "Socket data
types", along with subsection "Block device exports". Subsection
"Background jobs" is at the end of section "Cryptography". All this
is because storage-daemon/qapi/qapi-schema.json includes modules in a
confused order.
Fix both as follows.
Turn subsection "Background jobs" into a section.
Move it before section "Block devices" in the QEMU QMP Reference
Manual, by including qapi/jobs.json right before qapi/block.json.
Reorder include directives in storage-daemon/qapi/qapi-schema.json to
match the order in qapi/qapi-schema.json, so that the QEMU Storage
Daemon QMP Reference Manual's section structure the QEMU QMP Reference
Manual's.
In the QEMU QMP Reference Manual, qapi/cryptodev.json's documentation
is at the end of section "Virtio devices". That's because it lacks a
section heading, and therefore gets squashed into whatever section
happens to precede it.
Add section heading so it's in section "Cryptography devices".

We have two inclusion loops:
block/block.h
-> block/block-global-state.h
-> block/block-common.h
-> block/blockjob.h

-> block/block.h
I believe these go back to Emanuele's reorganization of the block API,
merged a few months ago in commit d7e2fe4aac8.
Fortunately, breaking them is merely a matter of deleting unnecessary
includes from headers, and adding them back in places where they are
now missing.

After writing the PID file, we register an atexit() handler to unlink it
when the process terminates. However, if the process has changed its
working directory in the meantime (e.g. in os_setup_post() when
daemonizing), this will not work when the PID file path was relative.
Therefore, pass the absolute path (created with realpath()) to the
unlink() call in the atexit() handler.
(realpath() needs a path pointing to an existing file, so we cannot use
it before qemu_write_pidfile().)
Reproducer:
$ cd /tmp
$ qemu-storage-daemon --daemonize --pidfile qsd.pid
$ file qsd.pid
qsd.pid: ASCII text
$ kill $(cat qsd.pid)
$ file qsd.pid
qsd.pid: ASCII text
(qsd.pid should be gone after the process has terminated.)

error_report() only works once monitor_init_globals_core() has been
called, which is not the case when parsing the --daemonize option. Use
fprintf(stderr, ...) instead.

Currently we use 'id' option as the name of VDUSE device.
It's a bit confusing since we use one value for two different
purposes: the ID to identfy the export within QEMU (must be
distinct from any other exports in the same QEMU process, but
can overlap with names used by other processes), and the VDUSE
name to uniquely identify it on the host (must be distinct from
other VDUSE devices on the same host, but can overlap with other
export types like NBD in the same process). To make it clear,
this patch adds a separate 'name' option to specify the VDUSE
name for the vduse-blk export instead.

To implement this, we reuse the existing daemonizing functions from the
system emulator, which mainly do the following:
- Fork off a child process, and set up a pipe between parent and child
- The parent process waits until the child sends a status byte over the
pipe (0 means that the child was set up successfully; anything else
(including errors or EOF) means that the child was not set up
successfully), and then exits with an appropriate exit status
- The child process enters a new session (forking off again), changes
the umask, and will ignore terminal signals from then on
- Once set-up is complete, the child will chdir to /, redirect all
standard I/O streams to /dev/null, and tell the parent that set-up has
been completed successfully
In contrast to qemu-nbd's --fork implementation, during the set up
phase, error messages are not piped through the parent process.
qemu-nbd mainly does this to detect errors, though (while os_daemonize()
has the child explicitly signal success after set up); because we do not
redirect stderr after forking, error messages continue to appear on
whatever the parent's stderr was (until set up is complete).

In contrast to qemu-nbd (where it is called --fork) and the system
emulator, QSD does not have a --daemonize switch yet. Just like them,
QSD allows setting up block devices and exports on the command line.
When doing so, it is often necessary for whoever invoked the QSD to wait
until these exports are fully set up. A --daemonize switch allows
precisely this, by virtue of the parent process exiting once everything
is set up.
Note that there are alternative ways of waiting for all exports to be
set up, for example:
- Passing the --pidfile option and waiting until the respective file
exists (but I do not know if there is a way of implementing this
without a busy wait loop)
- Set up some network server (e.g. on a Unix socket) and have the QSD
connect to it after all arguments have been processed by appending
corresponding --chardev and --monitor options to the command line,
and then wait until the QSD connects
Having a --daemonize option would make this simpler, though, without
having to rely on additional tools (to set up a network server) or busy
waiting.
Implementing a --daemonize switch means having to fork the QSD process.
Ideally, we should do this as early as possible: All the parent process
has to do is to wait for the child process to signal completion of its
set-up phase, and therefore there is basically no initialization that
needs to be done before the fork. On the other hand, forking after
initialization steps means having to consider how those steps (like
setting up the block layer or QMP) interact with a later fork, which is
often not trivial.
In order to fork this early, we must scan the command line for
--daemonize long before our current process_options() call. Instead of
adding custom new code to do so, just reuse process_options() and give
it a @pre_init_pass argument to distinguish the two passes. I believe
there are some other switches but --daemonize that deserve parsing in
the first pass:
- --help and --version are supposed to only print some text and then
immediately exit (so any initialization we do would be for naught).
This changes behavior, because now "--blockdev inv-drv --help" will
print a help text instead of complaining about the --blockdev
argument.
Note that this is similar in behavior to other tools, though: "--help"
is generally immediately acted upon when finding it in the argument
list, potentially before other arguments (even ones before it) are
acted on. For example, "ls /does-not-exist --help" prints a help text
and does not complain about ENOENT.
- --pidfile does not need initialization, and is already exempted from
the sequential order that process_options() claims to strictly follow
(the PID file is only created after all arguments are processed, not
at the time the --pidfile argument appears), so it makes sense to
include it in the same category as --daemonize.
- Invalid arguments should always be reported as soon as possible. (The
same caveat with --help applies: That means that "--blockdev inv-drv
--inv-arg" will now complain about --inv-arg, not inv-drv.)
This patch does make some references to --daemonize without having
implemented it yet, but that will happen in the next patch.

The code to check command policy can see special feature flag
'deprecated' as command flag QCO_DEPRECATED. I want to make feature
flag 'unstable' visible there as well, so I can add policy for it.
To let me make it visible, add member @special_features (a bitset of
QapiSpecialFeature) to QmpCommand, and adjust the generator to pass it
through qmp_register_command(). Then replace "QCO_DEPRECATED in
@flags" by QAPI_DEPRECATED in @special_features", and drop
QCO_DEPRECATED.

When configuring QEMU with --disable-fuse, the qemu-storage-daemon
still reports FUSE command line options in its help:

Implementing FUSE exports required no changes to the storage daemon, so
we forgot to document them there. Considering that both NBD and
vhost-user-blk exports are documented in its man page (and NBD exports

QMP commands return their response as a generated QAPI type, which the
monitor core converts to JSON via QObject.
query-qmp-schema's response is the generated introspection data. This
is a QLitObject since commit 7d0f982bfb "qapi: generate a literal
qobject for introspection", v2.12). Before, it was a string. Instead
of converting QLitObject / string -> QObject -> QAPI type
SchemaInfoList -> QObject -> JSON, we take a shortcut: the command is
'gen': false, so it can return the QObject instead of the QAPI type.
Slightly simpler and more efficient.
The next commit will filter the response for output policy, and this
is easier in the SchemaInfoList representation. Drop the shortcut.
This replaces the manual command registration by a generated one. The
manual registration makes the command available before the machine is
built by passing flag QCO_ALLOW_PRECONFIG. To keep it available
there, we need need to add 'allow-preconfig': true to its definition
in the schema.

The implementation for --object can be shared between
qemu-storage-daemon and other binaries, so move it into a function in
qom/object_interfaces.c that is accessible from everywhere.
This also requires moving the implementation of qmp_object_add() into a
new user_creatable_add_qapi(), because qom/qom-qmp-cmds.c is not linked
for tools.
user_creatable_print_help_from_qdict() can become static now.

This converts object-add from 'gen': false to the ObjectOptions QAPI
type. As an immediate benefit, clients can now use QAPI schema
introspection for user creatable QOM objects.
It is also the first step towards making the QAPI schema the only
external interface for the creation of user creatable objects. Once all
other places (HMP and command lines of the system emulator and all
tools) go through QAPI, too, some object implementations can be
simplified because some checks (e.g. that mandatory options are set) are
already performed by QAPI, and in another step, QOM boilerplate code
could be generated from the schema.

Daemons often have a --pidfile option where the pid is written to a file
so that scripts can stop the daemon by sending a signal.
The pid file also acts as a lock to prevent multiple instances of the
daemon from launching for a given pid file.
QEMU, qemu-nbd, qemu-ga, virtiofsd, and qemu-pr-helper all support the
--pidfile option. Add it to qemu-storage-daemon too.

If the first character of optstring is '-', then each nonoption argv
element is handled as if it were the argument of an option with character
code 1. This removes the reordering of the argv array, and enables usage
of loc_set_cmdline to provide better error messages.

Move blk_exp_close_all() from bdrv_close() to qemu_cleanup(), before
bdrv_drain_all_begin().
Export drivers may have coroutines yielding at some point in the block
layer, so we need to shut them down before draining the block layer,
as otherwise they may get stuck blk_wait_while_drained().

crypto/tlscreds.h includes GnuTLS headers if CONFIG_GNUTLS is set, but
GNUTLS_CFLAGS, that describe include path, are not propagated
transitively to all users of crypto and build fails if GnuTLS headers
reside in non-standard directory (which is a case for homebrew on Apple
Silicon).

Although individual qemu-storage-daemon QMP commands are identical to
QEMU QMP commands, qemu-storage-daemon only supports a subset of QEMU's
QMP commands. Generate a manual page of just the commands supported by
qemu-storage-daemon so that users know exactly what is available in
qemu-storage-daemon.
Add an h1 heading in storage-daemon/qapi/qapi-schema.json so that
block-core.json is at the h2 heading level.

The command line parser for --object parses the input twice: Once into
QemuOpts just for detecting help options, and then again into a QDict
using the keyval parser for actually creating the object.
Now that the keyval parser can also detect help options, we can simplify
this and remove the QemuOpts part.

This adds a special meaning for 'help' and '?' as options to the keyval
parser. Instead of being an error (because of a missing value) or a
value for an implied key, they now request help, which is a new boolean
output of the parser in addition to the QDict.
A new parameter 'p_help' is added to keyval_parse() that contains on
return whether help was requested. If NULL is passed, requesting help
results in an error and all other cases work like before.
Turning previous error cases into help is a compatible extension. The
behaviour potentially changes for implied keys: They could previously
get 'help' as their value, which is now interpreted as requesting help.
This is not a problem in practice because 'help' and '?' are not a valid
values for the implied key of any option parsed with keyval_parse():
* audiodev: union Audiodev, implied key "driver" is enum AudiodevDriver,
"help" and "?" are not among its values
* display: union DisplayOptions, implied key "type" is enum
DisplayType, "help" and "?" are not among its values
* blockdev: union BlockdevOptions, implied key "driver is enum
BlockdevDriver, "help" and "?" are not among its values
* export: union BlockExport, implied key "type" is enum BlockExportType,
"help" and "?" are not among its values
* monitor: struct MonitorOptions, implied key "mode" is enum MonitorMode,
"help" and "?" are not among its values
* nbd-server: struct NbdServerOptions, no implied key.

We'll need an id to identify block exports in monitor commands. This
adds one.
Note that this is different from the 'name' option in the NBD server,
which is the externally visible export name. While block export ids need
to be unique in the whole process, export names must be unique only for
the same server. Different export types or (potentially in the future)
multiple NBD servers can have the same export name externally, but still
need different block export ids internally.

Convert qemu-qmp-ref to rST format. This includes dropping
the plain-text, pdf and info format outputs for this document;
as with all our other Sphinx-based documentation, we provide
HTML and manpage only.
The qemu-qmp-ref.rst is somewhat more stripped down than
the .texi was, because we do not (currently) attempt to
generate indexes for the commands, events and data types
being documented.
Again, we drop the direct link from index.html.in now that
the QMP ref is part of the interop manual.
This commit removes the code from the root meson.build file that
handled the various Texinfo-based outputs, because we no longer
generate any documentation except for the Sphinx HTML manuals and the
manpages, and the code can't handle having an empty list of files
to process.. We'll do further cleanup of the remainders of
Texinfo support in subsequent commits.

This shows how to do some "computations" in meson.build using its array
and dictionary data structures, and also a basic usage of the sourceset
module for conditional compilation.
Notice the new "if have_system" part of util/meson.build, which fixes
a bug in the old build system was buggy: util/dbus.c was built even for
non-softmmu builds, but the dependency on -lgio was lost when the linking
was done through libqemuutil.a. Because all of its users required gio
otherwise, the bug was hidden. Meson instead propagates libqemuutil's
dependencies down to its users, and shows the problem.
