2024-10-31qom: allow user-creatable classes to be in modulesPaolo Bonzini
There is no real reason to make user-creatable classes different from other backends in this respect. This also allows modularized character devices to be treated by qom-list-properties just like builtin ones. qmp_qom_list_properties can print default values if they are available as qmp_device_list_properties does, because both of them use the ObjectPropertyInfo structure with default_value field. This can be useful when working with "not device" types (e.g. memory-backend). The has_FOO for pointer-valued FOO are redundant, except for arrays. They are also a nuisance to work with. Recent commit "qapi: Start to elide redundant has_FOO in generated C" provided the means to elide them step by step. This is the step for qapi/qdev.json and qapi/qom.json. 2022-03-21Use g_new() & friends where that makes obvious senseMarkus Armbruster
g_new(T, n) is neater than g_malloc(sizeof(T) * n). It's also safer, for two reasons. One, it catches multiplication overflowing size_t. Two, it returns T * rather than void *, which lets the compiler catch more type errors. This commit only touches allocations with size arguments of the form sizeof(T). 2021-03-19qom: Factor out user_creatable_process_cmdline()Kevin Wolf
The implementation for --object can be shared between qemu-storage-daemon and other binaries, so move it into a function in qom/object_interfaces.c that is accessible from everywhere. This also requires moving the implementation of qmp_object_add() into a new user_creatable_add_qapi(), because qom/qom-qmp-cmds.c is not linked for tools. user_creatable_print_help_from_qdict() can become static now. 2021-03-19qapi/qom: QAPIfy object-addKevin Wolf
This converts object-add from 'gen': false to the ObjectOptions QAPI type. As an immediate benefit, clients can now use QAPI schema introspection for user creatable QOM objects. It is also the first step towards making the QAPI schema the only external interface for the creation of user creatable objects. Once all other places (HMP and command lines of the system emulator and all tools) go through QAPI, too, some object implementations can be simplified because some checks (e.g. that mandatory options are set) are already performed by QAPI, and in another step, QOM boilerplate code could be generated from the schema. 2020-12-19qapi: Use QAPI_LIST_PREPEND() where possibleEric Blake
Anywhere we create a list of just one item or by prepending items (typically because order doesn't matter), we can use QAPI_LIST_PREPEND(). But places where we must keep the list in order by appending remain open-coded until later patches. Note that as a side effect, this also performs a cleanup of two minor issues in qga/commands-posix.c: the old code was performing new = g_malloc0(sizeof(*ret)); which 1) is confusing because you have to verify whether 'new' and 'ret' are variables with the same type, and 2) would conflict with C++ compilation (not an actual problem for this file, but makes copy-and-paste harder). 2020-04-30qemu-storage-daemon: Fix non-string --object propertiesKevin Wolf
After processing the option string with the keyval parser, we get a QDict that contains only strings. This QDict must be fed to a keyval visitor which converts the strings into the right data types. qmp_object_add(), however, uses the normal QObject input visitor, which expects a QDict where all properties already have the QType that matches the data type required by the QOM object type. Change the --object implementation in qemu-storage-daemon so that it doesn't call qmp_object_add(), but calls user_creatable_add_dict() directly instead and pass it a new keyval boolean that decides which visitor must be used. The QMP handler qmp_object_add() and the implementation of --object in qemu-storage-daemon can share most of the code. Currently, qemu-storage-daemon calls qmp_object_add(), but this is not correct because different visitors need to be used. As a first step towards a fix, make qmp_object_add() a wrapper around a new function user_creatable_add_dict() that can get an additional parameter. Mapping object-add to the command line as is doesn't result in nice syntax because of the nesting introduced with 'props'. This becomes nicer and more consistent with device_add and netdev_add when we accept properties for the object on the top level instead. 'props' is still accepted after this patch, but marked as deprecated. 2019-08-16Include hw/qdev-properties.h lessMarkus Armbruster
In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/qdev-properties.h triggers a recompile of some 2700 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). Many places including hw/qdev-properties.h (directly or via hw/qdev.h) actually need only hw/qdev-core.h. Include hw/qdev-core.h there instead. hw/qdev.h is actually pointless: all it does is include hw/qdev-core.h and hw/qdev-properties.h, which in turn includes hw/qdev-core.h. Replace the remaining uses of hw/qdev.h by hw/qdev-properties.h. While there, delete a few superfluous inclusions of hw/qdev-core.h. Touching hw/qdev-properties.h now recompiles some 1200 objects. The handlers for qapi/qom.json's QMP commands are in monitor/qmp-cmds.c. Move them to new qom/qom-qmp-cmds.c, where they are covered by MAINTAINERS section QOM, just like qapi/qom.json.
