2018-02-09Move include qemu/option.h from qemu-common.h to actual usersMarkus Armbruster
qemu-common.h includes qemu/option.h, but most places that include the former don't actually need the latter. Drop the include, and add it to the places that actually need it. While there, drop superfluous includes of both headers, and separate #include from file comment with a blank line. This cleanup makes the number of objects depending on qemu/option.h drop from 4545 (out of 4743) to 284 in my "build everything" tree. 2017-12-20qmp: remove qmp_cpuDaniel Henrique Barboza
'qmp_cpu' was implemented in commit 755f196898 ("qapi: Convert the cpu command") as a functional no-op, a QMP call that does nothing and return success. The idea, apparently, was to provide a counterpart for the HMP 'hmp_cpu' command, introduced in the same commit. After 6 years of its creation, qmp_cpu remains a functional no-op that does nothing, having no value for any caller/user. A proposal was sent to implement qmp_cpu like hmp_cpu works, but it was denied [1]. The reason is that QMP must be as stateless as possible and a function that changes its state (the current CPU monitor in the case of qmp_cpu) goes against it. Any QMP command that needs a specific monitor CPU setup must provide it in its arguments, instead of relying in the current QMP monitor state. After discussions that happened in [2] it was decided that a command that does nothing since its birth, no one uses for anything and will not be implemented, should be deprecated and erased. Given that we will *not* provide any replacement for qmp_cpu and we believe that there is no user relying on it, there is no point in adding a deprecation delay for it. So, this patch nukes qmp_cpu from QEMU code, removing both its blank implementation in qmp.c and its doc in qapi-schema.json. Instead of requiring them to make multiple queries with different filter arguments, just return an 'abstract' field in 'qom-list-types'. Time to wire up all the call sites that request a shutdown or reset to use the enum added in the previous patch. It would have been less churn to keep the common case with no arguments as meaning guest-triggered, and only modified the host-triggered code paths, via a wrapper function, but then we'd still have to audit that I didn't miss any host-triggered spots; changing the signature forces us to double-check that I correctly categorized all callers. Since command line options can change whether a guest reset request causes an actual reset vs. a shutdown, it's easy to also add the information to reset requests. 2017-05-11migration: Unify block node activation error handlingKevin Wolf
Migration code activates all block driver nodes on the destination when the migration completes. It does so by calling bdrv_invalidate_cache_all() and blk_resume_after_migration(). There is one code path for precopy and one for postcopy migration, resulting in four function calls, which used to have three different failure modes. This patch unifies the behaviour so that failure to activate all block nodes is non-fatal, but the error message is logged and the VM isn't automatically started. 2017-04-07block: Ignore guest dev permissions during incoming migrationKevin Wolf
Usually guest devices don't like other writers to the same image, so they use blk_set_perm() to prevent this from happening. In the migration phase before the VM is actually running, though, they don't have a problem with writes to the image. On the other hand, storage migration needs to be able to write to the image in this phase, so the restrictive blk_set_perm() call of qdev devices breaks it. This patch flags all BlockBackends with a qdev device as blk->disable_perm during incoming migration, which means that the requested permissions are stored in the BlockBackend, but not actually applied to its root node yet. Once migration has finished and the VM should be resumed, the permissions are applied. If they cannot be applied (e.g. because the NBD server used for block migration hasn't been shut down), resuming the VM fails. 2016-10-06qmp: fix object-add assert() without propsMarc-André Lureau
Since commit ad739706bbadee49, user_creatable_add_type() expects to be given a qdict. However, if object-add is called without props, you reach the assert: "qemu/qom/object_interfaces.c:115: user_creatable_add_type: Assertion `qdict' failed.", because the qdict isn't created in this case (it's optional). Furthermore, qmp_input_visitor_new() is not meant to be called without a dict, and a further commit will assert in this situation. If none given, create an empty qdict in qmp to avoid the user_creatable_add_type() assert(qdict). 2016-09-23util: Add UUID APIFam Zheng
A number of different places across the code base use CONFIG_UUID. Some of them are soft dependency, some are not built if libuuid is not available, some come with dummy fallback, some throws runtime error. It is hard to maintain, and hard to reason for users. Since UUID is a simple standard with only a small number of operations, it is cleaner to have a central support in libqemuutil. This patch adds qemu_uuid_* functions that all uuid users in the code base can rely on. Except for qemu_uuid_generate which is new code, all other functions are just copy from existing fallbacks from other files. Note that qemu_uuid_parse is moved without updating the function signature to use QemuUUID, to keep this patch simple. This is especially helpful when two CPU models are not identical, but a CPU model is required that is guaranteed to run under both configurations, where the original models run. Let's provide a standardized interface to compare two CPU models. "query-cpu-model-compare" takes two models and returns how they compare in a specific configuration. The result will give guarantees about runnability. E.g. if a CPU model A is a subset of CPU model B, model A is guaranteed to run in configurations where model B runs, but not the other way around (might or might not run). Usually, CPU features or CPU generations are used to calculate the result. If a model is not guaranteed to run in a certain environment (e.g. incompatible), a compatible one can be created by "baselining" both models (follow up patch). Let's provide a standardized interface to expand CPU models. This interface can be used by tooling to get details about a specific CPU model in a certain configuration, e.g. about the "host" model. To take care of all architectures, two detail levels for an expansion are introduced. Certain architectures might not support all detail levels. While "full" will expand and indicate all relevant properties/features of a CPU model, "static" expands to a static base CPU model, that will never change between QEMU versions and therefore have the same features when used under different compatibility machines. Currently, if not specified in "./configure", QEMU_PKGVERSION will be empty. The bdrv_next() users all leaked the BdrvNextIterator after completing the iteration. Simply changing bdrv_next() to free the iterator before returning NULL at the end of list doesn't work because some callers exit the loop before looking at all BDSes. This patch moves the BdrvNextIterator from the heap to the stack of the caller and switches to a bdrv_first()/bdrv_next() interface for initialising the iterator. The following uses of a QMP input visitor should be strict (that is, excess keys in QDict input should be flagged if not converted to QAPI): - Testsuite code unrelated to explicitly testing non-strict mode (test-qmp-commands, test-visitor-serialization); since we want more code to be strict by default, having more tests of strict mode doesn't hurt - Code used for cloning QAPI objects (replay-input.c, qemu-sockets.c); we are reparsing a QObject just barely produced by the qmp output visitor and which therefore should not have any garbage, so while it is extra work to be strict, it validates that our clone is correct [note that a later patch series will simplify these two uses by creating an actual clone visitor that is much more efficient than a generate/reparse cycle] - qmp_object_add(), which calls into user_creatable_add_type(). Since command line parsing for '-object' uses the same user_creatable_add_type() through the OptsVisitor, and that is always strict, we want to ensure that any nested dictionaries would be treated the same in QMP and from the command line (I don't actually know if such nested dictionaries exist). The QMP monitor code has two helper methods object_add and qmp_object_del that are called from several places in the code (QMP, HMP and main emulator startup). The HMP and main emulator startup code also share further logic that extracts the qom-type & id values from a qdict. We soon need to use this logic from qemu-img, qemu-io and qemu-nbd too, but don't want those to depend on the monitor, nor do we want to duplicate the code. To avoid this, move some code out of qmp.c and hmp.c adding new methods to qom/object_interfaces.c - user_creatable_add - takes a QDict holding a full object definition & instantiates it - user_creatable_add_type - takes an ID, type name, and QDict holding object properties & instantiates it - user_creatable_add_opts - takes a QemuOpts holding a full object definition & instantiates it - user_creatable_add_opts_foreach - variant on user_creatable_add_opts which can be directly used in conjunction with qemu_opts_foreach. - user_creatable_del - takes an ID and deletes the corresponding object The existing code is updated to use these new methods. 2016-01-20block: Inactivate BDS when migration completesKevin Wolf
So far, live migration with shared storage meant that the image is in a not-really-ready don't-touch-me state on the destination while the source is still actively using it, but after completing the migration, the image was fully opened on both sides. This is bad. This patch adds a block driver callback to inactivate images on the source before completing the migration. Inactivation means that it goes to a state as if it was just live migrated to the qemu instance on the source (i.e. BDRV_O_INACTIVE is set). You're then supposed to continue either on the source or on the destination, which takes ownership of the image. A typical migration looks like this now with respect to disk images: 1. Destination qemu is started, the image is opened with BDRV_O_INACTIVE. The image is fully opened on the source. 2. Migration is about to complete. The source flushes the image and inactivates it. Now both sides have the image opened with BDRV_O_INACTIVE and are expecting the other side to still modify it. 3. One side (the destination on success) continues and calls bdrv_invalidate_all() in order to take ownership of the image again. This removes BDRV_O_INACTIVE on the resuming side; the flag remains set on the other side. This ensures that the same image isn't written to by both instances (unless both are resumed, but then you get what you deserve). This is important because .bdrv_close for non-BDRV_O_INACTIVE images could write to the image file, which is definitely forbidden while another host is using the image. Currently the ObjectProperty iterator API works as follows: ObjectPropertyIterator *iter; iter = object_property_iter_init(obj); while ((prop = object_property_iter_next(iter))) { ... } object_property_iter_free(iter); This has the benefit that the ObjectPropertyIterator struct can be opaque, but has the downside that callers need to explicitly call a free function. It is also not in keeping with iterator style used elsewhere in QEMU/GLib2. Several devices don't survive object_unref(object_new(T)): they crash or hang during cleanup, or they leave dangling pointers behind. This breaks at least device-list-properties, because qmp_device_list_properties() needs to create a device to find its properties. Instead, add DeviceClass member cannot_destroy_with_object_finalize_yet to mark them: * Hang during cleanup (didn't debug, so I can't say why): "realview_pci", "versatile_pci". * Dangling pointer in cpus: most CPUs, plus "allwinner-a10", "digic", "fsl,imx25", "fsl,imx31", "xlnx,zynqmp", because they create such CPUs * Assert kvm_enabled(): "host-x86_64-cpu", host-i386-cpu", "host-powerpc64-cpu", "host-embedded-powerpc-cpu", "host-powerpc-cpu" (the powerpc ones can't currently reach the assertion, because the CPUs are only registered when KVM is enabled, but the assertion is arguably in the wrong place all the same) Make qmp_device_list_properties() fail cleanly when the device is so marked. This improves device-list-properties from "crashes, hangs or leaves dangling pointers behind" to "fails". Not a complete fix, just a better-than-nothing work-around.
