2024-07-17qapi: convert "Example" sections without titlesJohn Snow
Use the no-option form of ".. qmp-example::" to convert any Examples that do not have any form of caption or explanation whatsoever. Note that in a few cases, example sections are split into two or more separate example blocks. This is only done stylistically to create a delineation between two or more logically independent examples. See commit-3: "docs/qapidoc: create qmp-example directive", for a detailed explanation of this custom directive syntax. See commit+3: "qapi: remove "Example" doc section" for a detailed explanation of why. Note: an empty "TODO" line was added to announce-self to keep the example from floating up into the body; this will be addressed more rigorously in the new qapidoc generator. 2024-02-26qapi: Require descriptions and tagged sections to be indentedMarkus Armbruster
By convention, we indent the second and subsequent lines of descriptions and tagged sections, except for examples. Turn this into a hard rule, and apply it to examples, too. 2024-01-26qapi: Indent tagged doc comment sections properlyMarkus Armbruster
docs/devel/qapi-code-gen demands that the "second and subsequent lines of sections other than "Example"/"Examples" should be indented". Commit a937b6aa739 (qapi: Reformat doc comments to conform to current conventions) missed a few instances, and a few more have crept in since. Indent them. Change # @name: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed # do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. to # @name: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed # do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. See recent commit "qapi: Relax doc string @name: description indentation rules" for rationale. Reflow paragraphs to 70 columns width, and consistently use two spaces to separate sentences. To check the generated documentation does not change, I compared the generated HTML before and after this commit with "wdiff -3". Finds no differences. Comparing with diff is not useful, as the reflown paragraphs are visible there. 2023-04-28qapi: Fix bullet list markup in documentationMarkus Armbruster
Peter Maydell's commit 100cc4fe0f08 explains: rST insists on a blank line before and after a bulleted list [...] Add some extra blank lines in the doc comments so they're acceptable rST input. It missed one in qapi/trace.json. Paolo Bonzini later added another instance in qapi/stats.json, providing further, if unintended, evidence for his quip that rST is the Perl of ASCII-based markups. Both are parsed as ordinary paragraph, resulting in garbled output. John Snow missed the need for a blank line when converting docs/devel/qapi-code-gen.txt to rST. Add the blank lines we need to get the bullet lists recognized as such. Kevin Wolf and Lukas Straub added two more, but indented. Sphinx recognizes them as (indented) bullet lists. The indentation looks slightly off. Insert a blank line and delete the extra indentation. 2021-01-13Introduce yank featureLukas Straub
The yank feature allows to recover from hanging qemu by "yanking" at various parts. Other qemu systems can register themselves and multiple yank functions. Then all yank functions for selected instances can be called by the 'yank' out-of-band qmp command. Available instances can be queried by a 'query-yank' oob command.
