2013-06-28blockdev: add DriveBackup transactionStefan Hajnoczi
This patch adds a transactional version of the drive-backup QMP command. It allows atomic snapshots of multiple drives along with automatic cleanup if there is a failure to start one of the backup jobs. Note that QMP events are emitted for block job completion/cancellation and the block job will be listed by query-block-jobs. @device: the name of the device whose writes should be mirrored. @target: the target of the new image. If the file exists, or if it is a device, the existing file/device will be used as the new destination. If it does not exist, a new file will be created. @format: #optional the format of the new destination, default is to probe if @mode is 'existing', else the format of the source @mode: #optional whether and how QEMU should create a new image, default is 'absolute-paths'. @speed: #optional the maximum speed, in bytes per second @on-source-error: #optional the action to take on an error on the source, default 'report'. 'stop' and 'enospc' can only be used if the block device supports io-status (see BlockInfo). @on-target-error: #optional the action to take on an error on the target, default 'report' (no limitations, since this applies to a different block device than @device). 2013-06-28block: add drive-backup QMP commandStefan Hajnoczi
@drive-backup Start a point-in-time copy of a block device to a new destination. The status of ongoing drive-backup operations can be checked with query-block-jobs where the BlockJobInfo.type field has the value 'backup'. The operation can be stopped before it has completed using the block-job-cancel command. @device: the name of the device which should be copied. Note that @on-source-error and @on-target-error only affect background I/O. If an error occurs during a guest write request, the device's rerror/werror actions will be used. 2013-06-27rdma: introduce capability x-rdma-pin-allMichael R. Hines
This capability allows you to disable dynamic chunk registration for better throughput on high-performance links. For example, using an 8GB RAM virtual machine with all 8GB of memory in active use and the VM itself is completely idle using a 40 gbps infiniband link: 1. x-rdma-pin-all disabled total time: approximately 7.5 seconds @ 9.5 Gbps 2. x-rdma-pin-all enabled total time: approximately 4 seconds @ 26 Gbps These numbers would of course scale up to whatever size virtual machine you have to migrate using RDMA. Enabling this feature does *not* have any measurable affect on migration *downtime*. This is because, without this feature, all of the memory will have already been registered already in advance during the bulk round and does not need to be re-registered during the successive iteration rounds. 2013-05-06target-i386: Add "feature-words" property to X86CPUEduardo Habkost

2013-03-12Support for TPM command line optionsStefan Berger
This patch adds support for TPM command line options. The command line options supported here are ./qemu-... -tpmdev passthrough, path=<path to TPM device>,id=<id> -device tpm-tis,tpmdev=<id>,id=<other id> and ./qemu-... -tpmdev help where the latter works similar to -soundhw help and shows a list of available TPM backends (for example 'passthrough'). Using the type parameter, the backend is chosen, i.e., 'passthrough' for the passthrough driver. The interpretation of the other parameters along with determining whether enough parameters were provided is pushed into the backend driver, which needs to implement the interface function 'create' and return a TPMDriverOpts structure if the VM can be started or 'NULL' if not enough or bad parameters were provided. Monitor support for 'info tpm' has been added. It for example prints the following: (qemu) info tpm TPM devices: tpm0: model=tpm-tis \ tpm0: type=passthrough,path=/dev/tpm0,cancel-path=/sys/devices/pnp0/00:09/cancel Signed-off-by: Stefan Berger <stefanb@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Reviewed-by: Corey Bryant <coreyb@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Reviewed-by: Joel Schopp <jschopp@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Message-id: 1361987275-26289-2-git-send-email-stefanb@linux.vnet.ibm.com Signed-off-by: Anthony Liguori <aliguori@us.ibm.com>

2013-02-06qemu-char: Saner naming of memchar stuff & doc fixesMarkus Armbruster
New device, has never been released, so we can still improve things without worrying about compatibility. Naming is a mess. The code calls the device driver CirMemCharDriver, the public API calls it "memory", "memchardev", or "memchar", and the special commands are named like "memchar-FOO". "memory" is a particularly unfortunate choice, because there's another character device driver called MemoryDriver. Moreover, the device's distinctive property is that it's a ring buffer, not that's in memory. Therefore: * Rename CirMemCharDriver to RingBufCharDriver, and call the thing a "ringbuf" in the API. * Rename QMP and HMP commands from memchar-FOO to ringbuf-FOO. * Rename device parameter from maxcapacity to size (simple words are good for you). * Clearly mark the parameter as optional in documentation. * Fix error reporting so that chardev-add reports to current monitor, not stderr. * Replace cirmem in C identifiers by ringbuf. * Rework documentation. Document the impact of our crappy UTF-8 handling on reading. * QMP examples that even work. I could split this up into multiple commits, but they'd change the same documentation lines multiple times. Not worth it. Signed-off-by: Markus Armbruster <armbru@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: Eric Blake <eblake@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Anthony Liguori <aliguori@us.ibm.com>

Command memchar-write takes data and size parameter. Begs the question what happens when data doesn't match size. With format base64, qmp_memchar_write() copies the full data argument, regardless of size argument. With format utf8, qmp_memchar_write() copies size bytes from data, happily reading beyond data. Copies crap from the heap or even crashes. Drop the size parameter, and always copy the full data argument. 2013-02-01tap: multiqueue supportJason Wang
Recently, linux support multiqueue tap which could let userspace call TUNSETIFF for a signle device many times to create multiple file descriptors as independent queues. User could also enable/disabe a specific queue through TUNSETQUEUE. The patch adds the generic infrastructure to create multiqueue taps. To achieve this a new parameter "queues" were introduced to specify how many queues were expected to be created for tap by qemu itself. Alternatively, management could also pass multiple pre-created tap file descriptors separated with ':' through a new parameter fds like -netdev tap,id=hn0,fds="X:Y:..:Z". Multiple vhost file descriptors could also be passed in this way. Each TAPState were still associated to a tap fd, which mean multiple TAPStates were created when user needs multiqueue taps. Since each TAPState contains one NetClientState, with the multiqueue nic support, an N peers of NetClientState were built up. A new parameter, mq_required were introduce in tap_open() to create multiqueue tap fds. Signed-off-by: Jason Wang <jasowang@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Anthony Liguori <aliguori@us.ibm.com>
