2022-10-26s390x: pv: Add dump supportJanosch Frank
Sometimes dumping a guest from the outside is the only way to get the data that is needed. This can be the case if a dumping mechanism like KDUMP hasn't been configured or data needs to be fetched at a specific point. Dumping a protected guest from the outside without help from fw/hw doesn't yield sufficient data to be useful. Hence we now introduce PV dump support. The PV dump support works by integrating the firmware into the dump process. New Ultravisor calls are used to initiate the dump process, dump cpu data, dump memory state and lastly complete the dump process. The UV calls are exposed by KVM via the new KVM_PV_DUMP command and its subcommands. The guest's data is fully encrypted and can only be decrypted by the entity that owns the customer communication key for the dumped guest. Also dumping needs to be allowed via a flag in the SE header. On the QEMU side of things we store the PV dump data in the newly introduced architecture ELF sections (storage state and completion data) and the cpu notes (for cpu dump data). Users can use the zgetdump tool to convert the encrypted QEMU dump to an unencrypted one. Currently we're writing the NULL section header if we overflow the physical header number in the ELF header. But in the future we'll add custom section headers AND section data. To facilitate this we need to rearange section handling a bit. As with the other ELF headers we split the code into a prepare and a write step. To save the FDT blob we have the '-machine dumpdtb=<file>' property. With this property set, the machine saves the FDT in <file> and exit. The created file can then be converted to plain text dts format using 'dtc'. There's nothing particularly sophisticated into saving the FDT that can't be done with the machine at any state, as long as the machine has a valid FDT to be saved. The 'dumpdtb' command receives a 'filename' parameter and, if the FDT is available via current_machine->fdt, save it in dtb format to 'filename'. In short, this is a '-machine dumpdtb' that can be fired on demand via QMP/HMP. This command will always be executed in-band (i.e. holding BQL), avoiding potential race conditions with machines that might change the FDT during runtime (e.g. PowerPC 'pseries' machine). get_start_block() returns the start address of the first memory block or -1. With the GuestPhysBlock iterator conversion we don't need to set the start address and can therefore remove that code and the "start" DumpState struct member. This work is based on: https://patchew.org/QEMU/20220317125534.38706-1-philippe.mathieu.daude@gmail.com/ Simplify the initialization dance by running qemu_init() in the main thread before the Cocoa event loop starts. The secondary thread only runs only qemu_main_loop() and qemu_cleanup(). This fixes a case where addRemovableDevicesMenuItems() calls qmp_query_block() while expecting the main thread to still hold the BQL. Overriding the code after calling qemu_init() is done by dynamically replacing a function pointer variable, qemu_main when initializing ui/cocoa, which unifies the static implementation of main() for builds with ui/cocoa and ones without ui/cocoa. Currently QEMU exits with code 0 on both panic an shutdown. For tests it is useful to return 1 on panic, so that it counts as a test failure. Introduce a new exit-failure PanicAction that makes main() return EXIT_FAILURE. Tests can use -action panic=exit-failure option to activate this behavior. vCPU execution should be suspended when new BH is scheduled. This is needed to avoid guest timeouts caused by the long cycles of the execution. In replay mode execution may hang when vCPU sleeps and block event comes to the queue. This patch adds notification which wakes up vCPU or interrupts execution of guest code. The "-display sdl" option still uses a hand-crafted parser for its parameters since we didn't want to drag an interface we considered somewhat flawed into the QAPI schema. Since the flaws are gone now, it's time to QAPIfy. This introduces the new "DisplaySDL" QAPI struct that is used to hold the parameters that are unique to the SDL display. The only specific parameter is currently "grab-mod" that is used to specify the required modifier keys to escape from the mouse grabbing mode. The thread pool regulates itself: when idle, it kills threads until empty, when in demand, it creates new threads until full. This behaviour doesn't play well with latency sensitive workloads where the price of creating a new thread is too high. For example, when paired with qemu's '-mlock', or using safety features like SafeStack, creating a new thread has been measured take multiple milliseconds. In order to mitigate this let's introduce a new 'EventLoopBase' property to set the thread pool size. The threads will be created during the pool's initialization or upon updating the property's value, remain available during its lifetime regardless of demand, and destroyed upon freeing it. A properly characterized workload will then be able to configure the pool to avoid any latency spikes.
