2016-10-24cpu: Support a target CPU having a variable page sizePeter Maydell
Support target CPUs having a page size which isn't knownn at compile time. To use this, the CPU implementation should: * define TARGET_PAGE_BITS_VARY * not define TARGET_PAGE_BITS * define TARGET_PAGE_BITS_MIN to the smallest value it might possibly want for TARGET_PAGE_BITS * call set_preferred_target_page_bits() in its realize function to indicate the actual preferred target page size for the CPU (and report any error from it) In CONFIG_USER_ONLY, the CPU implementation should continue to define TARGET_PAGE_BITS appropriately for the guest OS page size. Machines which want to take advantage of having the page size something larger than TARGET_PAGE_BITS_MIN must set the MachineClass minimum_page_bits field to a value which they guarantee will be no greater than the preferred page size for any CPU they create. Note that changing the target page size by setting minimum_page_bits is a migration compatibility break for that machine. For debugging purposes, attempts to use TARGET_PAGE_SIZE before it has been finally confirmed will assert. machine_class_base_init() member name is allocated by machine_class_base_init(), but not freed by machine_class_finalize(). Simply freeing there doesn't work, because DEFINE_PC_MACHINE() overwrites it with a literal string. Fix DEFINE_PC_MACHINE() not to overwrite it, and add the missing free to machine_class_finalize(). 2016-06-17QMP: Add query-hotpluggable-cpusIgor Mammedov
It will allow mgmt to query present and hotpluggable CPU objects, it is required from a target platform that wishes to support command to implement and set MachineClass.query_hotpluggable_cpus callback, which will return a list of possible CPU objects with options that would be needed for hotplugging possible CPU objects. There are: 'type': 'str' - QOM CPU object type for usage with device_add 'vcpus-count': 'int' - number of logical VCPU threads per CPU object (mgmt needs to know) and a set of optional fields that are to used for hotplugging a CPU objects and would allows mgmt tools to know what/where it could be hotplugged; [node],[socket],[core],[thread] For present CPUs there is a 'qom-path' field which would allow mgmt to inspect whatever object/abstraction the target platform considers as CPU object. Entries are inserted in filename order instead of being appended to the end in case sorting is enabled. This will avoid any future issues of moving the file creation around, it doesn't matter what order they are created now, the will always be in filename order. This was a fairly complex change, this will preserve the order of fw_cfg for older versions no matter what order the firmware files actually come in. A list is kept of the correct legacy order and the entries will be inserted based upon their order in the list. Except that some entries are ordered (in a specific area of the list) based upon what order they appear on the command line. Special handling is added for those entries. 2016-03-11machine: introduce MachineClass.possible_cpu_arch_ids() hookIgor Mammedov
on x86 currently range 0..max_cpus is used to generate architecture-dependent CPU ID (APIC Id) for each present and possible CPUs. However architecture-dependent CPU IDs list could be sparse and code that needs to enumerate all IDs (ACPI) ended up doing guess work enumerating all possible and impossible IDs up to apic_id_limit = x86_cpu_apic_id_from_index(max_cpus). That leads to creation of MADT entries and Processor objects in ACPI tables for not possible CPUs. Fix it by allowing board specify a concrete list of CPU IDs accourding its own rules (which for x86 depends on topology). So that code that needs this list could request it from board instead of trying to guess what IDs are correct on its own. This interface will also allow to help making AML part of CPU hotplug target independent so it could be reused for ARM target. 2016-02-28migration: allow machine to enforce configuration section migrationGreg Kurz
Migration of pseries-2.3 doesn't have configuration section. Unfortunately, QEMU 2.4/2.4.1/2.5 are buggy and always stream and expect the configuration section, and break migration both ways. This patch introduces a property which allows to enforce a configuration section for machines who don't have one. It can be set at startup: -machine enforce-config-section=on or later from the QEMU monitor: qom-set /machine enforce-config-section on It is up to the tooling to set or unset this property according to the version of the QEMU at the other end of the pipe. pc.h defines a SET_MACHINE_COMPAT macro to make setting up compat_props for the various PC machine versions less verbose. There's nothing inherently PC specific about it, though, so move it to boards.h where other versioned machine types (like pseries-*) can use it. 2015-11-25osdep: Change default value of qemu_hw_version() to "2.5+"Eduardo Habkost
There are two issues with qemu_hw_version() today: 1) If a machine has hw_version set, the value returned by it is not very useful, because it is not the actual QEMU version. 2) If a machine does't set hw_version, the return value of qemu_hw_version() is broken, because it will change when upgrading QEMU. For those reasons, using qemu_hw_version() is strongly discouraged, and should be used only in code that used QEMU_VERSION in the past and needs to keep compatibility. To fix (2), instead of making every machine broken by default unless they set hw_version, make qemu_hw_version() simply return "2.5+" if qemu_set_hw_version() is not called. Suggested-by: Michael S. 2015-07-07ich9: add TCO interface emulationPaulo Alcantara
This interface provides some registers within a 32-byte range and can be acessed through PCI-to-LPC bridge interface (PMBASE + 0x60). It's commonly used as a watchdog timer to detect system lockups through SMIs that are generated -- if TCO_EN bit is set -- on every timeout. If NO_REBOOT bit is not set in GCS (General Control and Status register), the system will be resetted upon second timeout if TCO_RLD register wasn't previously written to prevent timeout. This patch adds support to TCO watchdog logic and few other features like mapping NMIs to SMIs (NMI2SMI_EN bit), system intruder detection, etc. are not implemented yet. 2015-03-16migration: Allow to suppress vmdesc submissionAlexander Graf
We now always send a JSON blob describing the migration file format as part of the migration stream. However, some tools built around QEMU have proven to stumble over this. This patch gives the user the chance to disable said self-describing part of the migration stream. To disable vmdesc submission, just add -machine suppress-vmdesc=on to your QEMU command line. For machines that don't implement dynamic sysbus assignment in their board files we add a new bool "has_dynamic_sysbus" to the machine class. Commit 261747f1 ("vl: Use MachineClass instead of global QEMUMachine list") broke the ordering of the machine types in the user-visible output of qemu-system-XXXX -M \? This occurred because registration was rebased from a manually maintained linked list to GLib hash tables: qemu_register_machine() type_register() type_register_internal() type_table_add() g_hash_table_insert() and because the listing was rebased accordingly, from the traversal of the list to the traversal of the hash table (rendered as an ad-hoc list): machine_parse() object_class_get_list(TYPE_MACHINE) object_class_foreach() g_hash_table_foreach() The current order is a "random" one, for practical purposes, which is annoying for users. Introduce new members QEMUMachine.family and MachineClass.family, allowing machine types to be "clustered". Introduce a comparator function that establishes a total ordering between machine types, ordering machine types in the same family next to each other. In machine_parse(), list the supported machine types sorted with the comparator function. The comparator function: - sorts whole families before standalone machine types, - sorts whole families between each other in alphabetically increasing order, - sorts machine types inside the same family in alphabetically decreasing order, - sorts standalone machine types between each other in alphabetically increasing order. After this patch, all machine types are considered standalone, and accordingly, the output is alphabetically ascending. This will be refined in the following patches. 2014-10-03pc/vl: Add units-per-default-bus propertyJohn Snow
This patch adds the 'units_per_default_bus' property which allows individual boards to declare their desired index => (bus,unit) mapping for their default HBA, so that boards such as Q35 can specify that its default if_ide HBA, AHCI, only accepts one unit per bus. This property only overrides the mapping for drives matching the block_default_type interface. This patch also adds this property to *all* past and present Q35 machine types. This retroactive addition is justified because the previous erroneous index=>(bus,unit) mappings caused by lack of such a property were not utilized due to lack of initialization code in the Q35 init routine. Further, semantically, the Q35 board type has always had the property that its default HBA, AHCI, only accepts one unit per bus. The new code added to add devices to drives relies upon the accuracy of this mapping. Thus, the property is applied retroactively to reduce complexity of allowing IDE HBAs with different units per bus. Examples: Prior to this patch, all IDE HBAs were assumed to use 2 units per bus (Master, Slave). When using Q35 and AHCI, however, we only allow one unit per bus. -hdb foo.qcow2 would become index=1, or bus=0,unit=1. -hdd foo.qcow2 would become index=3, or bus=1,unit=1. -drive file=foo.qcow2,index=5 becomes bus=2,unit=1. These are invalid for AHCI. They now become, under Q35 only: -hdb foo.qcow2 --> index=1, bus=1, unit=0. -hdd foo.qcow2 --> index=3, bus=3, unit=0. -drive file=foo.qcow2,index=5 --> bus=5,unit=0. The mapping is adjusted based on the fact that the default IF for the Q35 machine type is IF_IDE, and units-per-default-bus overrides the IDE mapping from its default of 2 units per bus to just 1 unit per bus.
