2018-06-15block: Remove deprecated -drive option serialKevin Wolf
The -drive option serial was deprecated in QEMU 2.10. It's time to remove it. Tests need to be updated to set the serial number with -global instead of using the -drive option. 2018-03-02Include less of the generated modular QAPI headersMarkus Armbruster
In my "build everything" tree, a change to the types in qapi-schema.json triggers a recompile of about 4800 out of 5100 objects. The previous commit split up qmp-commands.h, qmp-event.h, qmp-visit.h, qapi-types.h. Each of these headers still includes all its shards. Reduce compile time by including just the shards we actually need. To illustrate the benefits: adding a type to qapi/migration.json now recompiles some 2300 instead of 4800 objects. The next commit will improve it further. 2018-02-09Include qapi/qmp/qdict.h exactly where neededMarkus Armbruster
This cleanup makes the number of objects depending on qapi/qmp/qdict.h drop from 4550 (out of 4743) to 368 in my "build everything" tree. For qapi/qmp/qobject.h, the number drops from 4552 to 390. 2017-12-19hw/block: Fix the return typeMao Zhongyi
When the function no success value to transmit, it usually make the function return void. It has turned out not to be a success, because it means that the extra local_err variable and error_propagate() will be needed. It leads to cumbersome code, therefore, transmit success/ failure in the return value is worth. So fix the return type of blkconf_apply_backend_options(), blkconf_geometry() and virtio_blk_data_plane_create() to avoid it. 2017-02-28hw/block: Introduce share-rw qdev propertyKevin Wolf
By default, don't allow another writer for block devices that are attached to a guest device. For the cases where this setup is intended (e.g. using a cluster filesystem on the disk), the new option can be used to allow it. This change affects only devices using DEFINE_BLOCK_PROPERTIES(). Devices directly using DEFINE_PROP_DRIVE() still accept writers unconditionally. 2016-07-13block/qdev: Allow configuring rerror/werror with qdev propertiesKevin Wolf
The rerror/werror policies are implemented in the devices, so that's where they should be configured. In comparison to the old options in -drive, the qdev properties are only added to those devices that actually support them. If the option isn't given (or "auto" is specified), the setting of the BlockBackend is used for compatibility with the old options. For block jobs, "auto" is the same as "enospc". 2016-07-13block/qdev: Allow configuring WCE with qdev propertiesKevin Wolf
As cache.writeback is a BlockBackend property and as such more related to the guest device than the BlockDriverState, we already removed it from the blockdev-add interface. This patch adds the new way to set it, as a qdev property of the corresponding guest device. For example: -drive if=none,file=test.img,node-name=img -device ide-hd,drive=img,write-cache=off Signed-off-by: Kevin Wolf <kwolf@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: Max Reitz <mreitz@redhat.com>

2016-03-11fdc: add function to determine drive chs limitsRoman Kagan
When populating ACPI objects for floppy drives one needs to provide the maximum values for cylinder, sector, and head number the drive supports. This patch adds a function that iterates through the array of predefined floppy drive formats and returns the maximum values of c, h, s, out of those matching the given floppy drive type. 2015-03-10BlockConf: Call backend functions to detect geometry and blocksizesEkaterina Tumanova
geometry: hd_geometry_guess function autodetects the drive geometry. This patch adds a block backend call, that probes the backing device geometry. If the inner driver method is implemented and succeeds (currently only for DASDs), the blkconf_geometry will pass-through the backing device geometry. Otherwise will fallback to old logic. blocksize: This patch initializes blocksize properties to 0. In order to set the property a blkconf_blocksizes was introduced. If user didn't set physical or logical blocksize, it will retrieve its value from a driver (only succeeds for DASD), otherwise it will set default 512 value. The blkconf_blocksizes call was added to all users of BlkConf. 2014-10-20hw: Convert from BlockDriverState to BlockBackend, mostlyMarkus Armbruster
Device models should access their block backends only through the block-backend.h API. Convert them, and drop direct includes of inappropriate headers. Just four uses of BlockDriverState are left: * The Xen paravirtual block device backend (xen_disk.c) opens images itself when set up via xenbus, bypassing blockdev.c. I figure it should go through qmp_blockdev_add() instead. * Device model "usb-storage" prompts for keys. No other device model does, and this one probably shouldn't do it, either. * ide_issue_trim_cb() uses bdrv_aio_discard() instead of blk_aio_discard() because it fishes its backend out of a BlockAIOCB, which has only the BlockDriverState. * PC87312State has an unused BlockDriverState[] member. 2013-04-08hw: move headers to include/Paolo Bonzini
Many of these should be cleaned up with proper qdev-/QOM-ification.
