2020-07-03hw/arm/virt-acpi-build: Only expose flash on older machine typesAndrew Jones
The flash device is exclusively for the host-controlled firmware, so we should not expose it to the OS. Exposing it risks the OS messing with it, which could break firmware runtime services and surprise the OS when all its changes disappear after reboot. As firmware needs the device and uses DT, we leave the device exposed there. It's up to firmware to remove the nodes from DT before sending it on to the OS. However, there's no need to force firmware to remove tables from ACPI (which it doesn't know how to do anyway), so we simply don't add the tables in the first place. But, as we've been adding the tables for quite some time and don't want to change the default hardware exposed to versioned machines, then we only stop exposing the flash device tables for 5.1 and later machine types. 2020-07-03hw/arm/virt: Let the virtio-iommu bypass MSIsEric Auger
At the moment the virtio-iommu translates MSI transactions. This behavior is inherited from ARM SMMU. The virt machine code knows where the guest MSI doorbells are so we can easily declare those regions as VIRTIO_IOMMU_RESV_MEM_T_MSI. With that setting the guest will not map MSIs through the IOMMU and those transactions will be simply bypassed. Depending on which MSI controller is in use (ITS or GICV2M), we declare either: - the ITS interrupt translation space (ITS_base + 0x10000), containing the GITS_TRANSLATOR or - The GICV2M single frame, containing the MSI_SETSP_NS register. 2020-02-27hw/arm/virt: Add the virtio-iommu device tree mappingsEric Auger
Adds the "virtio,pci-iommu" node in the host bridge node and the RID mapping, excluding the IOMMU RID. This is done in the virtio-iommu-pci hotplug handler which gets called only if no firmware is loaded or if -no-acpi is passed on the command line. As non DT integration is not yet supported by the kernel we must make sure we are in DT mode. This limitation will be removed as soon as the topology description feature gets supported. 2019-10-05hw/arm/virt: Enable device memory cold/hot plug with ACPI bootShameer Kolothum
This initializes the GED device with base memory and irq, configures ged memory hotplug event and builds the corresponding aml code. With this, both hot and cold plug of device memory is enabled now for Guest with ACPI boot. Memory cold plug support with Guest DT boot is not yet supported. As DSDT table gets changed by this, update bios-tables-test-allowed-diff.h to avoid "make check" failure. 2019-05-07hw/arm/virt: Support firmware configuration with -blockdevMarkus Armbruster
The ARM virt machines put firmware in flash memory. To configure it, you use -drive if=pflash,unit=0,... and optionally -drive if=pflash,unit=1,... Why two -drive? This permits setting up one part of the flash memory read-only, and the other part read/write. It also makes upgrading firmware on the host easier. Below the hood, we get two separate flash devices, because we were too lazy to improve our flash device models to support sector protection. The problem at hand is to do the same with -blockdev somehow, as one more step towards deprecating -drive. We recently solved this problem for x86 PC machines, in commit ebc29e1beab. See the commit message for design rationale. This commit solves it for ARM virt basically the same way: new machine properties pflash0, pflash1 forward to the onboard flash devices' properties. Requires creating the onboard devices in the .instance_init() method virt_instance_init(). The existing code to pick up drives defined with -drive if=pflash is replaced by code to desugar into the machine properties. There are a few behavioral differences, though: * The flash devices are always present (x86: only present if configured) * Flash base addresses and sizes are fixed (x86: sizes depend on images, mapped back to back below a fixed address) * -bios configures contents of first pflash (x86: -bios configures ROM contents) * -bios is rejected when first pflash is also configured with -machine pflash0=... (x86: bios is silently ignored then) * -machine pflash1=... does not require -machine pflash0=... (x86: it does). The actual code is a bit simpler than for x86 mostly due to the first two differences. 2019-03-05hw/arm/virt: Dynamic memory map depending on RAM requirementsEric Auger
Up to now the memory map has been static and the high IO region base has always been 256GiB. This patch modifies the virt_set_memmap() function, which freezes the memory map, so that the high IO range base becomes floating, located after the initial RAM and the device memory. The function computes - the base of the device memory, - the size of the device memory, - the high IO region base - the highest GPA used in the memory map. Entries of the high IO region are assigned a base address. The device memory is initialized. The highest GPA used in the memory map will be used at VM creation to choose the requested IPA size. Setting all the existing highmem IO regions beyond the RAM allows to have a single contiguous RAM region (initial RAM and possible hotpluggable device memory). That way we do not need to do invasive changes in the EDK2 FW to support a dynamic RAM base. Still the user cannot request an initial RAM size greater than 255GB. 2019-03-05hw/arm/virt: Split the memory map descriptionEric Auger
In the prospect to introduce an extended memory map supporting more RAM, let's split the memory map array into two parts: - the former a15memmap, renamed base_memmap, contains regions below and including the RAM. MemMapEntries initialized in this array have a static size and base address. - extended_memmap, only initialized with entries located after the RAM. MemMapEntries initialized in this array only get their size initialized. Their base address is dynamically computed depending on the the top of the RAM, with same alignment as their size. Eventually base_memmap entries are copied into the extended_memmap array. Using two separate arrays however clarifies which entries are statically allocated and those which are dynamically allocated. This new split will allow to grow the RAM size without changing the description of the high IO entries. We introduce a new virt_set_memmap() helper function which "freezes" the memory map. We call it in machvirt_init as memory attributes of the machine are not yet set when virt_instance_init() gets called. The memory map is unchanged (the top of the initial RAM still is 256GiB). Then come the high IO regions with same layout as before. 2018-05-10platform-bus-device: use device plug callback instead of machine_done notifierIgor Mammedov
platform-bus were using machine_done notifier to get and map (assign irq/mmio resources) dynamically added sysbus devices after all '-device' options had been processed. That however creates non obvious dependencies on ordering of machine_done notifiers and requires carefull line juggling to keep it working. For example see comment above create_platform_bus() and 'straitforward' arm_load_kernel() had to converted to machine_done notifier and that lead to yet another machine_done notifier to keep it working arm_register_platform_bus_fdt_creator(). Instead of hiding resource assignment in platform-bus-device to magically initialize sysbus devices, use device plug callback and assign resources explicitly at board level at the moment each -device option is being processed. That adds a bunch of machine declaration boiler plate to e500plat board, similar to ARM/x86 but gets rid of hidden machine_done notifier and would allow to remove the dependent notifiers in ARM code simplifying it and making code flow easier to follow. 2017-01-20hw/arm/virt: Support using SMC for PSCIPeter Maydell
If we are giving the guest a CPU with EL2, it is likely to want to use the HVC instruction itself, for instance for providing PSCI to inner guest VMs. This makes using HVC as the PSCI conduit for the outer QEMU a bad idea. We will want to use SMC instead is this case: this makes sense because QEMU's PSCI implementation is effectively an emulation of functionality provided by EL3 firmware. GICv2 compatibility check happens inside arm_gic_common_realize(). ITS region is added to the memory map too, however currently it not used, just reserved. 2015-09-07hw/arm/virt: Add high MMIO PCI region, 512G in sizePavel Fedin
This large region is necessary for some devices like ivshmem and video cards 32-bit kernels can be built without LPAE support. In this case such a kernel will not be able to use PCI controller which has windows in high addresses. In order to work around the problem, "highmem" option is introduced. It defaults to on on, but can be manually set to off in order to be able to run those old 32-bit guests. Allows sysbus devices to be instantiated from command line by using -device option. Machvirt creates a platform bus at init. The dynamic sysbus devices are attached to this platform bus device. The platform bus device registers a machine init done notifier whose role will be to bind the dynamic sysbus devices. Indeed dynamic sysbus devices are created after machine init. machvirt also registers a notifier that will build the device tree nodes for the platform bus and its children dynamic sysbus devices.
