2024-04-23migration/multifd: solve zero page causing multiple page faultsYuan Liu
Implemented recvbitmap tracking of received pages in multifd. If the zero page appears for the first time in the recvbitmap, this page is not checked and set. If the zero page has already appeared in the recvbitmap, there is no need to check the data but directly set the data to 0, because it is unlikely that the zero page will be migrated multiple times. 2024-04-23RAMBlock: Add support of KVM private guest memfdXiaoyao Li
Add KVM guest_memfd support to RAMBlock so both normal hva based memory and kvm guest memfd based private memory can be associated in one RAMBlock. Introduce new flag RAM_GUEST_MEMFD. When it's set, it calls KVM ioctl to create private guest_memfd during RAMBlock setup. Allocating a new RAM_GUEST_MEMFD flag to instruct the setup of guest memfd is more flexible and extensible than simply relying on the VM type because in the future we may have the case that not all the memory of a VM need guest memfd. As a benefit, it also avoid getting MachineState in memory subsystem. Note, RAM_GUEST_MEMFD is supposed to be set for memory backends of confidential guests, such as TDX VM. How and when to set it for memory backends will be implemented in the following patches. Introduce memory_region_has_guest_memfd() to query if the MemoryRegion has KVM guest_memfd allocated. 2024-03-01migration/ram: Add outgoing 'mapped-ram' migrationFabiano Rosas
Implement the outgoing migration side for the 'mapped-ram' capability. A bitmap is introduced to track which pages have been written in the migration file. Pages are written at a fixed location for every ramblock. Zero pages are ignored as they'd be zero in the destination migration as well. The migration stream is altered to put the dirty pages for a ramblock after its header instead of having a sequential stream of pages that follow the ramblock headers. Without mapped-ram (current): With mapped-ram (new): --------------------- -------------------------------- | ramblock 1 header | | ramblock 1 header | --------------------- -------------------------------- | ramblock 2 header | | ramblock 1 mapped-ram header | --------------------- -------------------------------- | ... | | padding to next 1MB boundary | --------------------- | ... | | ramblock n header | -------------------------------- --------------------- | ramblock 1 pages | | RAM_SAVE_FLAG_EOS | | ... | --------------------- -------------------------------- | stream of pages | | ramblock 2 header | | (iter 1) | -------------------------------- | ... | | ramblock 2 mapped-ram header | --------------------- -------------------------------- | RAM_SAVE_FLAG_EOS | | padding to next 1MB boundary | --------------------- | ... | | stream of pages | -------------------------------- | (iter 2) | | ramblock 2 pages | | ... | | ... | --------------------- -------------------------------- | ... | | ... | --------------------- -------------------------------- | RAM_SAVE_FLAG_EOS | -------------------------------- | ... | -------------------------------- where: - ramblock header: the generic information for a ramblock, such as idstr, used_len, etc. - ramblock mapped-ram header: the new information added by this feature: bitmap of pages written, bitmap size and offset of pages in the migration file. 2024-01-08Replace "iothread lock" with "BQL" in commentsStefan Hajnoczi
The term "iothread lock" is obsolete. The APIs use Big QEMU Lock (BQL) in their names. Update the code comments to use "BQL" instead of "iothread lock". 2023-05-23hostmem-file: add offset optionAlexander Graf
Add an option for hostmem-file to start the memory object at an offset into the target file. This is useful if multiple memory objects reside inside the same target file, such as a device node. In particular, it's useful to map guest memory directly into /dev/mem for experimentation. To make this work consistently, also fix up all places in QEMU that expect fd offsets to be 0. 2022-11-21migration: Use non-atomic ops for clear log bitmapPeter Xu
Since we already have bitmap_mutex to protect either the dirty bitmap or the clear log bitmap, we don't need atomic operations to set/clear/test on the clear log bitmap. Switching all ops from atomic to non-atomic versions, meanwhile touch up the comments to show which lock is in charge. Introduced non-atomic version of bitmap_test_and_clear_atomic(), mostly the same as the atomic version but simplified a few places, e.g. dropped the "old_bits" variable, and also the explicit memory barriers. 2021-05-13migration/ram: Handle RAM block resizes during postcopyDavid Hildenbrand
Resizing while migrating is dangerous and does not work as expected. The whole migration code works with the usable_length of a ram block and does not expect this value to change at random points in time. In the case of postcopy, relying on used_length is racy as soon as the guest is running. Also, when used_length changes we might leave the uffd handler registered for some memory regions, reject valid pages when migrating and fail when sending the recv bitmap to the source. Resizing can be trigger *after* (but not during) a reset in ACPI code by the guest - hw/arm/virt-acpi-build.c:acpi_ram_update() - hw/i386/acpi-build.c:acpi_ram_update() Let's remember the original used_length in a separate variable and use it in relevant postcopy code. Make sure to update it when we resize during precopy, when synchronizing the RAM block sizes with the source.
