2022-09-27usb/msd: add usb_msd_fatal_error() and fix guest-triggerable assertGerd Hoffmann
Add handler for fatal errors. Moves device into error state where it stops responding until the guest resets it. Guest can send illegal requests where scsi command and usb packet transfer directions are inconsistent. Use the new usb_msd_fatal_error() function instead of assert() in that case. When a SCSI command is received from the guest, the CDB length implied by the first byte might exceed the number of bytes the guest sent. Stale data in csw (specifically residue) can confuse the state machine and allows the guest trigger an assert(). So clear csw on reset to avoid this happening in case the guest resets the device in the middle of a request. 2021-01-27block: Separate blk_is_writable() and blk_supports_write_perm()Kevin Wolf
Currently, blk_is_read_only() tells whether a given BlockBackend can only be used in read-only mode because its root node is read-only. Some callers actually try to answer a slightly different question: Is the BlockBackend configured to be writable, by taking write permissions on the root node? This can differ, for example, for CD-ROM devices which don't take write permissions, but may be backed by a writable image file. scsi-cd allows write requests to the drive if blk_is_read_only() returns false. However, the write request will immediately run into an assertion failure because the write permission is missing. This patch introduces separate functions for both questions. blk_supports_write_perm() answers the question whether the block node/image file can support writable devices, whereas blk_is_writable() tells whether the BlockBackend is currently configured to be writable. All calls of blk_is_read_only() are converted to one of the two new functions. 2020-06-17block: consolidate blocksize properties consistency checksRoman Kagan
Several block device properties related to blocksize configuration must be in certain relationship WRT each other: physical block must be no smaller than logical block; min_io_size, opt_io_size, and discard_granularity must be a multiple of a logical block. To ensure these requirements are met, add corresponding consistency checks to blkconf_blocksizes, adjusting its signature to communicate possible error to the caller. Also remove the now redundant consistency checks from the specific devices. The dwc-hsotg (dwc2) USB host depends on a short packet to indicate the end of an IN transfer. The usb-storage driver currently doesn't provide this, so fix it. I have tested this change rather extensively using a PC emulation with xhci, ehci, and uhci controllers, and have not observed any regressions. 2020-05-15qom: Drop parameter @errp of object_property_add() & friendsMarkus Armbruster
The only way object_property_add() can fail is when a property with the same name already exists. Since our property names are all hardcoded, failure is a programming error, and the appropriate way to handle it is passing &error_abort. Same for its variants, except for object_property_add_child(), which additionally fails when the child already has a parent. Parentage is also under program control, so this is a programming error, too. We have a bit over 500 callers. Almost half of them pass &error_abort, slightly fewer ignore errors, one test case handles errors, and the remaining few callers pass them to their own callers. The previous few commits demonstrated once again that ignoring programming errors is a bad idea. Of the few ones that pass on errors, several violate the Error API. The Error ** argument must be NULL, &error_abort, &error_fatal, or a pointer to a variable containing NULL. Passing an argument of the latter kind twice without clearing it in between is wrong: if the first call sets an error, it no longer points to NULL for the second call. ich9_pm_add_properties(), sparc32_ledma_realize(), sparc32_dma_realize(), xilinx_axidma_realize(), xilinx_enet_realize() are wrong that way. When the one appropriate choice of argument is &error_abort, letting users pick the argument is a bad idea. Drop parameter @errp and assert the preconditions instead. There's one exception to "duplicate property name is a programming error": the way object_property_add() implements the magic (and undocumented) "automatic arrayification". Don't drop @errp there. Instead, rename object_property_add() to object_property_try_add(), and add the obvious wrapper object_property_add(). In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/qdev-properties.h triggers a recompile of some 2700 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). Many places including hw/qdev-properties.h (directly or via hw/qdev.h) actually need only hw/qdev-core.h. Include hw/qdev-core.h there instead. hw/qdev.h is actually pointless: all it does is include hw/qdev-core.h and hw/qdev-properties.h, which in turn includes hw/qdev-core.h. Replace the remaining uses of hw/qdev.h by hw/qdev-properties.h. While there, delete a few superfluous inclusions of hw/qdev-core.h. Touching hw/qdev-properties.h now recompiles some 1200 objects. 2018-01-26usb: Remove legacy -usbdevice options (host, serial, disk and net)Thomas Huth
The option have been marked as deprecated since QEMU 2.10, and so far nobody complained that the host, serial, disk and net options are urgently required anymore. So let's now get rid at least of this legacy pile, to simplify the usb code quite a bit. This patch removes the usbdevices host, serial, disk and net. These devices use their own complicated parameter parsing mechanisms, so they are just ugly to maintain, without real benefit for the users (the users can use the corresponding "-device" parameters instead which have the same complexity as the "-usbdevice" devices here). Note that the other rather simple -usbdevice options (mouse, tablet, etc.) are not removed yet (the code is really simple here, so it does not hurt much to keep it), as well as the two devices "braille" and "bt" which are easier to use with -usbdevice than with -device. If a node name instead of a BlockBackend name is specified as the driver for a guest device, an anonymous BlockBackend is created now. The order of operations in release_drive() must be reversed in order to avoid a use-after-free bug because now blk_detach_dev() frees the last reference if an anonymous BlockBackend is used. usb-storage uses a hack where it forwards its BlockBackend as a property to another device that it internally creates. This hack must be updated so that it doesn't drop its original BB before it can be passed to the other device. This used to work because we always had the monitor reference around, but with node-names the device reference is the only one now.
