2015-09-25sparc: Remove ELF_MACHINE from cpu.hPeter Crosthwaite
The bootloaders can just pass EM_SPARC or EM_SPARCV9 directly, as they are architecture specific code (to one or the other). This removes another architecture specific definition from the global namespace. 2015-09-19Revert use of DEFINE_MACHINE() for registrations of multiple machinesAndreas Färber

2015-09-18Fix bad error handling after memory_region_init_ram()Markus Armbruster
Symptom: $ qemu-system-x86_64 -m 10000000 Unexpected error in ram_block_add() at /work/armbru/qemu/exec.c:1456: upstream-qemu: cannot set up guest memory 'pc.ram': Cannot allocate memory Aborted (core dumped) Root cause: commit ef701d7 screwed up handling of out-of-memory conditions. Before the commit, we report the error and exit(1), in one place, ram_block_add(). The commit lifts the error handling up the call chain some, to three places. Fine. Except it uses &error_abort in these places, changing the behavior from exit(1) to abort(), and thus undoing the work of commit 3922825 "exec: Don't abort when we can't allocate guest memory". The three places are: * memory_region_init_ram() Commit 4994653 (right after commit ef701d7) lifted the error handling further, through memory_region_init_ram(), multiplying the incorrect use of &error_abort. Later on, imitation of existing (bad) code may have created more. * memory_region_init_ram_ptr() The &error_abort is still there. * memory_region_init_rom_device() Doesn't need fixing, because commit 33e0eb5 (soon after commit ef701d7) lifted the error handling further, and in the process changed it from &error_abort to passing it up the call chain. Correct, because the callers are realize() methods. Fix the error handling after memory_region_init_ram() with a Coccinelle semantic patch: @r@ expression mr, owner, name, size, err; position p; @@ memory_region_init_ram(mr, owner, name, size, ( - &error_abort + &error_fatal | err@p ) ); @script:python@ p << r.p; @@ print "%s:%s:%s" % (p[0].file, p[0].line, p[0].column) When the last argument is &error_abort, it gets replaced by &error_fatal. This is the fix. If the last argument is anything else, its position is reported. This lets us check the fix is complete. Four positions get reported: * ram_backend_memory_alloc() Error is passed up the call chain, ultimately through user_creatable_complete(). As far as I can tell, it's callers all handle the error sanely. * fsl_imx25_realize(), fsl_imx31_realize(), dp8393x_realize() DeviceClass.realize() methods, errors handled sanely further up the call chain. We're good. Test case again behaves: $ qemu-system-x86_64 -m 10000000 qemu-system-x86_64: cannot set up guest memory 'pc.ram': Cannot allocate memory [Exit 1 ] The next commits will repair the rest of commit ef701d7's damage. 2015-09-09i8257: remove cpu_request_exit irqPaolo Bonzini
This is unused. cpu_exit now is almost exclusively an internal function to the CPU execution loop. In a few patches, we'll change the remaining occurrences to qemu_cpu_kick, making it truly internal. Reviewed-by: Richard henderson <rth@twiddle.net> Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>
2015-09-09i8257: rewrite DMA_schedule to avoid hooking into the CPU loopPaolo Bonzini
The i8257 DMA controller uses an idle bottom half, which by default does not cause the main loop to exit. Therefore, the DMA_schedule function is there to ensure that the CPU relinquishes the iothread mutex to the iothread. However, this is not enough since the iothread will call aio_compute_timeout() and go to sleep again. In the iothread world, forcing execution of the idle bottom half is much simpler, and only requires a call to qemu_notify_event(). Do it, removing the need for the "cpu_request_exit" pseudo-irq. The next patch will remove it. Reviewed-by: Richard Henderson <rth@twiddle.net> Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>
2015-06-10fw_cfg: fix FW_CFG_BOOT_DEVICE update on ppc and sparcGabriel L. Somlo
On ppc, sparc, and sparc64, the value of the FW_CFG_BOOT_DEVICE 16bit fw_cfg entry is repeatedly modified from a series of callbacks, which currently results in the previous value's dynamically allocated memory being leaked. This patch switches updating to the new fw_cfg_modify_i16() call, which does not cause memory leaks. Signed-off-by: Gabriel Somlo <somlo@cmu.edu> Signed-off-by: Gerd Hoffmann <kraxel@redhat.com>
2015-03-25fw_cfg: factor out initialization of FW_CFG_ID (rev. number)Gabriel L. Somlo
The fw_cfg documentation says this of the revision key (0x0001, FW_CFG_ID): > A 32-bit little-endian unsigned int, this item is used as an interface > revision number, and is currently set to 1 by all QEMU architectures > which expose a fw_cfg device. arm/virt doesn't. It could be argued that that's an error in "hw/arm/virt.c"; on the other hand, all of the other fw_cfg providing boards set the interface version to 1 manually, despite the device coming from the same, shared implementation. Therefore, instead of adding fw_cfg_add_i32(fw_cfg, FW_CFG_ID, 1); to arm/virt, consolidate all such existing calls in the fw_cfg initialization code. 2015-03-10sun4u: switch m48t59 NVRAM to MMIO accessMark Cave-Ayland
Real sun4u systems memory-map the NVRAM on the (ISA) ebus, so switch over to MMIO from ioport access whilst setting the base year to 1968 as used by Sun systems. This allows all SPARC64 OSs included in my tests to correctly detect the NVRAM IC and read the hardware clock correctly upon boot. Note that this also requires a corresponding OpenBIOS update to r1330 in order to switch the SPARC64 NVRAM accessors over from ioport to MMIO. 2014-10-20hw: Convert from BlockDriverState to BlockBackend, mostlyMarkus Armbruster
Device models should access their block backends only through the block-backend.h API. Convert them, and drop direct includes of inappropriate headers. Just four uses of BlockDriverState are left: * The Xen paravirtual block device backend (xen_disk.c) opens images itself when set up via xenbus, bypassing blockdev.c. I figure it should go through qmp_blockdev_add() instead. * Device model "usb-storage" prompts for keys. No other device model does, and this one probably shouldn't do it, either. * ide_issue_trim_cb() uses bdrv_aio_discard() instead of blk_aio_discard() because it fishes its backend out of a BlockAIOCB, which has only the BlockDriverState. * PC87312State has an unused BlockDriverState[] member. 2014-10-03ide: Update ide_drive_get to be HBA agnosticJohn Snow
Instead of duplicating the logic for the if_ide (bus, unit) mappings, rely on the blockdev layer for managing those mappings for us, and use the drive_get_by_index call instead. This allows ide_drive_get to work for AHCI HBAs as well, and can be used in the Q35 initialization. Lastly, change the nature of the argument to ide_drive_get so that represents the number of total drives we can support, and not the total number of buses. 2014-08-17sun4u: switch second PCI-ebus bridge BAR over to PCI IO spaceMark Cave-Ayland
The ebus is the sun4u equivalent of the old ISA bus which is already mapped at the beginning of PCI IO space within QEMU. NetBSD attempts to find the physical addresses of devices connected to the ebus by parsing the BARs of the PCI-ebus bridge and using the base address found by matching both the address space type and range for a particular ebus address. Since the second PCI-ebus bridge BAR is already aliased onto IO space, switch the BAR over to match and reduce the size to 0x1000 which is enough to cover all the legacy ioport devices whilst leaving the remaining IO space for other PCI devices. This allows NetBSD SPARC64 to correctly detect and access devices on the ebus. Signed-off-by: Mark Cave-Ayland <mark.cave-ayland@ilande.co.uk>

2013-08-28hw: Clean up bogus default boot orderMarkus Armbruster
We set default boot order "cad" in every single machine definition except "pseries" and "moxiesim", even though very few boards actually care for boot order, and "cad" makes sense for even fewer. Machines that care: * pc and its variants Accept up to three letters 'a', 'b' (undocumented alias for 'a'), 'c', 'd' and 'n'. Reject all others (fatal with -boot). * nseries (n800, n810) Check whether order starts with 'n'. Silently ignored otherwise. * prep, g3beige, mac99 Extract the first character the machine understands (subset of 'a'..'f'). Silently ignored otherwise. * spapr Accept an arbitrary string (vl.c restricts it to contain only 'a'..'p', no duplicates). * sun4[mdc] Use the first character. Silently ignored otherwise. Strip characters these machines ignore from their default boot order. For all other machines, remove the unused default boot order alltogether. Note that my rename of QEMUMachine member boot_order to default_boot_order and QEMUMachineInitArgs member boot_device to boot_order has a welcome side effect: it makes every use of boot orders visible in this patch, for easy review.
