2020-06-23sd/milkymist-memcard: Fix error API violationMarkus Armbruster
The Error ** argument must be NULL, &error_abort, &error_fatal, or a pointer to a variable containing NULL. Passing an argument of the latter kind twice without clearing it in between is wrong: if the first call sets an error, it no longer points to NULL for the second call. milkymist_memcard_realize() is wrong that way: it passes &err to qdev_prop_set_drive_err() and qdev_realize_and_unref(). Currently harmless, because the latter uses it only as first argument of error_propagate(). Making qdev_prop_set_drive_err() fail involves abuse of -global. Leave handling that to qdev_prop_set_drive(), like we do elsewhere. 2019-08-16Clean up inclusion of sysemu/sysemu.hMarkus Armbruster
In my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h triggers a recompile of some 5400 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). Almost a third of its inclusions are actually superfluous. Delete them. Downgrade two more to qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h, and move one from char/serial.h to char/serial.c. hw/semihosting/config.c, monitor/monitor.c, qdev-monitor.c, and stubs/semihost.c define variables declared in sysemu/sysemu.h without including it. The compiler is cool with that, but include it anyway. This doesn't reduce actual use much, as it's still included into widely included headers. The next commit will tackle that. In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/qdev-properties.h triggers a recompile of some 2700 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). Many places including hw/qdev-properties.h (directly or via hw/qdev.h) actually need only hw/qdev-core.h. Include hw/qdev-core.h there instead. hw/qdev.h is actually pointless: all it does is include hw/qdev-core.h and hw/qdev-properties.h, which in turn includes hw/qdev-core.h. Replace the remaining uses of hw/qdev.h by hw/qdev-properties.h. While there, delete a few superfluous inclusions of hw/qdev-core.h. Touching hw/qdev-properties.h now recompiles some 1200 objects. 2018-01-16hw/sd/milkymist-memcard: Reset SD card on controller resetPeter Maydell
Since milkymist-memcard is still using the legacy SD card API, the SD card created by sd_init() is not plugged into any bus. This means that the controller has to reset it manually. Failing to do this mostly didn't affect the guest since the guest typically does a programmed SD card reset as part of its SD controller driver initialization, but meant that migration failed because it's only in sd_reset() that we set up the wpgrps_size field. cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet was introduced by commit efec3dd631d94160288392721a5f9c39e50fb2bc to replace no_user. It was supposed to be a temporary measure. When it was introduced, we had 54 cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines in the code. Today (3 years later) this number has not shrunk: we now have 57 cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines. I think it is safe to say it is not a temporary measure, and we won't see the flag go away soon. Instead of a long field name that misleads people to believe it is temporary, replace it a shorter and less misleading field: user_creatable. 2015-04-02sysbus: Make devices picking up backends unavailable with -deviceMarkus Armbruster
Device models aren't supposed to go on fishing expeditions for backends. They should expose suitable properties for the user to set. For onboard devices, board code sets them. A number of sysbus devices pick up block backends in their init() / instance_init() methods with drive_get_next() instead: sl-nand, milkymist-memcard, pl181, generic-sdhci. Likewise, a number of sysbus devices pick up character backends in their init() / realize() methods with qemu_char_get_next_serial(): cadence_uart, digic-uart, etraxfs,serial, lm32-juart, lm32-uart, milkymist-uart, pl011, stm32f2xx-usart, xlnx.xps-uartlite. All these mistakes are already marked FIXME. See the commit that added these FIXMEs for a more detailed explanation of what's wrong. Fortunately, only machines ppce500 and pseries-* support -device with sysbus devices, and none of the devices above is supported with these machines. Set cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet to preserve our luck. 2015-04-02hw: Mark devices picking up block backends actively FIXMEMarkus Armbruster
Drives defined with if!=none are for board initialization to wire up. Board code calls drive_get() or similar to find them, and creates devices with their qdev drive properties set accordingly. Except a few devices go on a fishing expedition for a suitable backend instead of exposing a drive property for board code to set: they call driver_get() or drive_get_next() in their realize() or init() method to implicitly connect to the "next" backend with a certain interface type. Picking up backends that way works when the devices are created by board code. But it's inappropriate for -device or device_add. Not only is this inconsistent with how the other block device models work (they connect to a backend explicitly identified by a "drive" property), it breaks when the "next" backend has been picked up by the board already. Device models should access their block backends only through the block-backend.h API. Convert them, and drop direct includes of inappropriate headers. Just four uses of BlockDriverState are left: * The Xen paravirtual block device backend (xen_disk.c) opens images itself when set up via xenbus, bypassing blockdev.c. I figure it should go through qmp_blockdev_add() instead. * Device model "usb-storage" prompts for keys. No other device model does, and this one probably shouldn't do it, either. * ide_issue_trim_cb() uses bdrv_aio_discard() instead of blk_aio_discard() because it fishes its backend out of a BlockAIOCB, which has only the BlockDriverState. * PC87312State has an unused BlockDriverState[] member. The patch is big, but all it really does is replacing dinfo->bdrv by blk_bs(blk_by_legacy_dinfo(dinfo)) The replacement is repetitive, but the conversion of device models to BlockBackend is imminent, and will shorten it to just blk_legacy_dinfo(dinfo). Line wrapping muddies the waters a bit. I also omit tests whether dinfo->bdrv is null, because it never is. IF_NONE allows read-only, which makes forbidding it in this place for other types pretty much pointless. Instead, make sure that all devices for which the check would have errored out check in their init function that they don't get a read-only BlockDriverState.
