The vhost_iotlb_msg structure introduced for kernel backends is re-used, making the design close between the two backends. 2017-05-25virtio_net: Bypass backends for MTU feature negotiationMaxime Coquelin
This patch adds a new internal "x-mtu-bypass-backend" property to bypass backends for MTU feature negotiation. When this property is set, the MTU feature is negotiated as soon as supported by the guest and a MTU value is set via the host_mtu parameter. In case the backend advertises the feature (e.g. DPDK's vhost-user backend), the feature negotiation is propagated down to the backend. When this property is not set, the backend has to support the MTU feature for its negotiation to succeed. For compatibility purpose, this property is disabled for machine types v2.9 and older. 2017-05-23e1000e: Fix ICR "Other" causes clear logicSameeh Jubran
This commit fixes a bug which causes the guest to hang. The bug was observed upon a "receive overrun" (bit #6 of the ICR register) interrupt which could be triggered post migration in a heavy traffic environment. Even though the "receive overrun" bit (#6) is masked out by the IMS register (refer to the log below) the driver still receives an interrupt as the "receive overrun" bit (#6) causes the "Other" - bit #24 of the ICR register - bit to be set as documented below. The driver handles the interrupt and clears the "Other" bit (#24) but doesn't clear the "receive overrun" bit (#6) which leads to an infinite loop. Apparently the Windows driver expects that the "receive overrun" bit and other ones - documented below - to be cleared when the "Other" bit (#24) is cleared. So to sum that up: 1. Bit #6 of the ICR register is set by heavy traffic 2. As a results of setting bit #6, bit #24 is set 3. The driver receives an interrupt for bit 24 (it doesn't receieve an interrupt for bit #6 as it is masked out by IMS) 4. The driver handles and clears the interrupt of bit #24 5. Bit #6 is still set. 6. 2 happens all over again The Interrupt Cause Read - ICR register: The ICR has the "Other" bit - bit #24 - that is set when one or more of the following ICR register's bits are set: LSC - bit #2, RXO - bit #6, MDAC - bit #9, SRPD - bit #16, ACK - bit #17, MNG - bit #18 This bug can occur with any of these bits depending on the driver's behaviour and the way it configures the device. However, trying to reproduce it with any bit other than RX0 is challenging and came to failure as the drivers don't implement most of these bits, trying to reproduce it with LSC (Link Status Change - bit #2) bit didn't succeed too as it seems that Windows handles this bit differently. The tx_bh or tx_timer will free in virtio_net_del_queue() function, when removing virtio-net queues if the guest doesn't support multiqueue. But it might be still referenced by virtio_net_set_status(), which needs to be set NULL. And also the tx_waiting needs to be set zero to prevent virtio_net_set_status() accessing tx_bh or tx_timer. 2017-05-17sysbus: Set user_creatable=false by default on TYPE_SYS_BUS_DEVICEEduardo Habkost
commit 33cd52b5d7b9adfd009e95f07e6c64dd88ae2a31 unset cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet in TYPE_SYSBUS, making all sysbus devices appear on "-device help" and lack the "no-user" flag in "info qdm". To fix this, we can set user_creatable=false by default on TYPE_SYS_BUS_DEVICE, but this requires setting user_creatable=true explicitly on the sysbus devices that actually work with -device. Fortunately today we have just a few has_dynamic_sysbus=1 machines: virt, pc-q35-*, ppce500, and spapr. virt, ppce500, and spapr have extra checks to ensure just a few device types can be instantiated: * virt supports only TYPE_VFIO_CALXEDA_XGMAC, TYPE_VFIO_AMD_XGBE. * ppce500 supports only TYPE_ETSEC_COMMON. * spapr supports only TYPE_SPAPR_PCI_HOST_BRIDGE. This patch sets user_creatable=true explicitly on those 4 device classes. Now, the more complex cases: pc-q35-*: q35 has no sysbus device whitelist yet (which is a separate bug). We are in the process of fixing it and building a sysbus whitelist on q35, but in the meantime we can fix the "-device help" and "info qdm" bugs mentioned above. Also, despite not being strictly necessary for fixing the q35 bug, reducing the list of user_creatable=true devices will help us be more confident when building the q35 whitelist. xen: We also have a hack at xen_set_dynamic_sysbus(), that sets has_dynamic_sysbus=true at runtime when using the Xen accelerator. This hack is only used to allow xen-backend devices to be dynamically plugged/unplugged. This means today we can use -device with the following 22 device types, that are the ones compiled into the qemu-system-x86_64 and qemu-system-i386 binaries: * allwinner-ahci * amd-iommu * cfi.pflash01 * esp * fw_cfg_io * fw_cfg_mem * generic-sdhci * hpet * intel-iommu * ioapic * isabus-bridge * kvmclock * kvm-ioapic * kvmvapic * SUNW,fdtwo * sysbus-ahci * sysbus-fdc * sysbus-ohci * unimplemented-device * virtio-mmio * xen-backend * xen-sysdev This patch adds user_creatable=true explicitly to those devices, temporarily, just to keep 100% compatibility with existing behavior of q35. Subsequent patches will remove user_creatable=true from the devices that are really not meant to user-creatable on any machine, and remove the FIXME comment from the ones that are really supposed to be user-creatable. This is being done in separate patches because we still don't have an obvious list of devices that will be whitelisted by q35, and I would like to get each device reviewed individually. cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet was introduced by commit efec3dd631d94160288392721a5f9c39e50fb2bc to replace no_user. It was supposed to be a temporary measure. When it was introduced, we had 54 cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines in the code. Today (3 years later) this number has not shrunk: we now have 57 cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines. I think it is safe to say it is not a temporary measure, and we won't see the flag go away soon. Instead of a long field name that misleads people to believe it is temporary, replace it a shorter and less misleading field: user_creatable. 2017-04-24net: add FTGMAC100 supportCédric Le Goater
The FTGMAC100 device is an Ethernet controller with DMA function that can be found on Aspeed SoCs (which include NCSI). It is fully compliant with IEEE 802.3 specification for 10/100 Mbps Ethernet and IEEE 802.3z specification for 1000 Mbps Ethernet and includes Reduced Media Independent Interface (RMII) and Reduced Gigabit Media Independent Interface (RGMII) interfaces. It adopts an AHB bus interface and integrates a link list DMA engine with direct M-Bus accesses for transmitting and receiving packets. It has independent TX/RX fifos, supports half and full duplex (1000 Mbps mode only supports full duplex), flow control for full duplex and backpressure for half duplex. The FTGMAC100 also implements IP, TCP, UDP checksum offloads and supports IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tag insertion and removal. It offers high-priority transmit queue for QoS and CoS applications This model is backed with a RealTek 8211E PHY which is the chip found on the AST2500 EVB. It is complete enough to satisfy two different Linux drivers and a U-Boot driver. Not supported features are : - IEEE 802.1Q VLAN - High Priority Transmit Queue - Wake-On-LAN functions The code is based on the Coldfire Fast Ethernet Controller model. 2017-04-20cadence_gem: Correct the interupt logicAlistair Francis
This patch fixes two mistakes in the interrupt logic. First we only trigger single-queue or multi-queue interrupts if the status register is set. This logic was already used for non multi-queue interrupts but it also applies to multi-queue interrupts. Secondly we need to lower the interrupts if the ISR isn't set. As part of this we can remove the other interrupt lowering logic and consolidate it inside gem_update_int_status(). 2017-03-14hw/net: implement MIB counters in mcf_fec driverGreg Ungerer
The FEC ethernet hardware module used on ColdFire SoC parts contains a block of RAM used to maintain hardware counters. This block is accessible via the usual FEC register address space. There is currently no support for this in the QEMU mcf_fec driver. Add support for storing a MIB RAM block, and provide register level access to it. Also implement a basic set of stats collection functions to populate MIB data fields. This support tested running a Linux target and using the net-tools "ethtool -S" option. As of linux-4.9 the kernels FEC driver makes accesses to the MIB counters during its initialization (which it never did before), and so this version of Linux will now fail with the QEMU error: qemu: hardware error: mcf_fec_read: Bad address 0x200 This MIB counter support fixes this problem. When net_rx_pkt_attach_iovec() calls eth_strip_vlan() this can result in pkt->ehdr_buf being overflowed, because ehdr_buf is only sizeof(struct eth_header) bytes large but eth_strip_vlan() can write sizeof(struct eth_header) + sizeof(struct vlan_header) bytes into it. 2017-02-22hw/net/spapr_llan: 6 byte mac address device tree entrySam Bobroff
The spapr-vlan device in QEMU has always presented it's MAC address in the device tree as an 8 byte value, even though PAPR requires it to be 6 bytes. This is because, at the time, AIX required the value to be 8 bytes. However, modern versions of AIX support the (correct) 6 byte value so they no longer require the workaround. It would be neatest to always provide a 6 byte value but that would cause a problem with old Linux kernel ibmveth drivers, so the old 8 byte value is still presented when necessary. Since commit 13f85203e (3.10, May 2013) the driver has been able to handle 6 or 8 byte addresses so versions after that don't need to be considered specially. Drivers from kernels before that can also handle either type of address, but not always: * If the first byte's lowest bits are 10, the address must be 6 bytes. * Otherwise, the address must be 8 bytes. (The two bits in question are significant in a MAC address: they indicate a locally-administered unicast address.) So to maintain compatibility the old 8 byte value is presented when the lowest two bits of the first byte are not 10. When the guest attempts to start an MII register access via the MCTL register, clear the START bit, so that when the guest reads it back the register transaction will be signalled as having completed. This avoids the guest spinning as it polls the START bit waiting for it to clear (which it previously never would). The MII registers themselves still aren't implemented, but at least we can avoid guests spending quite so much time busy waiting. The vmstate_pci_device and vmstate_pcie_devices differ just in the size of one buffer; combine the two using a _TEST macro. I think this is safe as long as everywhere which currently uses either of these two uses the right type. One thing that concerns me is that some places use pci_device_load/save which does some irq mangling, but others just use the VMSTATE_PCI_DEVICE macro - how are they getting the same irq mangling? This passes a smoke test migrate of: ./x86_64-softmmu/qemu-system-x86_64 -M pc,accel=kvm -m 1024 ./littlefed20.img -device e1000e -device virtio-net -device e1000 -device virtio-rng -device megasas -device megasas-gen2 -device ioh3420 -device nec-usb-xhci to an unmodified qemu. The dp8393x has several 32-bit values which are formed by concatenating two 16 bit device register values. Attempting to do these inline with ((s->reg[HI] << 16) | s->reg[LO]) can result in an unintended sign extension because "x << 16" is of type 'int' even though s->reg is unsigned, and so if the expression is used in a context where it is cast to uint64_t the value is incorrectly sign-extended. Fix this by using accessor functions with a uint32_t return type; this also makes the code a bit easier to read. This should fix Coverity issues 1307765, 1307766, 1307767, 1307768. (To avoid having a ctda read function only used in a DPRINTF, we move the DPRINTF down slightly so it can use the ttda function.)
