2019-07-05hw: Replace global smp variables with MachineState for all remaining archsLike Xu
The global smp variables in alpha/hppa/mips/openrisc/sparc*/xtensa codes are replaced with smp properties from MachineState. A local variable of the same name would be introduced in the declaration phase if it's used widely in the context OR replace it on the spot if it's only used once. No semantic changes. 2019-07-05machine: Refactor smp-related call chains to pass MachineStateLike Xu
To get rid of the global smp_* variables we're currently using, it's recommended to pass MachineState in the list of incoming parameters for functions that use global smp variables, thus some redundant parameters are dropped. It's applied for legacy smbios_*(), *_machine_reset(), hot_add_cpu() and mips *_create_cpu(). 2019-05-24hw/mips: Use object_initialize_child for correct reference countingPhilippe Mathieu-Daudé
As explained in commit aff39be0ed97: Both functions, object_initialize() and object_property_add_child() increase the reference counter of the new object, so one of the references has to be dropped afterwards to get the reference counting right. Otherwise the child object will not be properly cleaned up when the parent gets destroyed. Thus let's use now object_initialize_child() instead to get the reference counting here right. While the object_initialize() function doesn't take an 'Error *errp' argument, the object_initialize_child() does. Since this code is used when a machine is created (and is not yet running), we deliberately choose to use the &error_abort argument instead of ignoring errors if an object creation failed. Our pflash devices are simplistically modelled has having "num-blocks" sectors of equal size "sector-length". Real hardware commonly has sectors of different sizes. How our "sector-length" property is related to the physical device's multiple sector sizes is unclear. Helper functions pflash_cfi01_register() and pflash_cfi02_register() create a pflash device, set properties including "sector-length" and "num-blocks", and realize. They take parameters @size, @sector_len and @nb_blocs. QOMification left parameter @size unused. Obviously, @size should match @sector_len and @nb_blocs, i.e. size == sector_len * nb_blocs. All callers satisfy this. Remove @nb_blocs and compute it from @size and @sector_len. 2019-03-11mips_malta: Clean up definition of flash memory size somewhatMarkus Armbruster
pflash_cfi01_register() takes a size in bytes, a block size in bytes and a number of blocks. mips_malta_init() passes BIOS_SIZE, 65536, FLASH_SIZE >> 16. Actually consistent only because BIOS_SIZE (defined in include/hw/mips/bios.h as (4 * MiB)) matches FLASH_SIZE (defined locally as 0x400000). Confusing all the same. Pass FLASH_SIZE instead of BIOS_SIZE. 2019-03-11hw/mips/malta: Restrict 'bios_size' variable scopePhilippe Mathieu-Daudé
The 'bios_size' variable is only used in the 'if (!kernel_filename && !dinfo)' clause. This is the case when we don't provide -pflash command line option, and also don't provide a -kernel option. In this case we will check for the -bios option, or use the default BIOS_FILENAME file. The 'bios' term is valid in this if statement, but is confuse in the whole mips_malta_init() scope. Restrict his scope. 2019-03-11pflash: Rename pflash_t to PFlashCFI01, PFlashCFI02Markus Armbruster
flash.h's incomplete struct pflash_t is completed both in pflash_cfi01.c and in pflash_cfi02.c. The complete types are incompatible. This can hide type errors, such as passing a pflash_t created with pflash_cfi02_register() to pflash_cfi01_get_memory(). Furthermore, POSIX reserves typedef names ending with _t. Rename the two structs to PFlashCFI01 and PFlashCFI02. 2019-02-05elf: Add optional function ptr to load_elf() to parse ELF notesLiam Merwick
This patch adds an optional function pointer, 'elf_note_fn', to load_elf() which causes load_elf() to additionally parse any ELF program headers of type PT_NOTE and check to see if the ELF Note is of the type specified by the 'translate_opaque' arg. If a matching ELF Note is found then the specfied function pointer is called to process the ELF note. Passing a NULL function pointer results in ELF Notes being skipped. The first consumer of this functionality is the PVHboot support which needs to read the XEN_ELFNOTE_PHYS32_ENTRY ELF Note while loading the uncompressed kernel binary in order to discover the boot entry address for the x86/HVM direct boot ABI. The rom_ptr() function allows direct access to the ROM blobs that we load during startup. 2018-06-27hw/mips/mips_malta: don't make bios region 'nomigrate'Peter Maydell
Currently we use memory_region_init_rom_nomigrate() to create the "bios.1fc" memory region, and we don't manually register it with vmstate_register_ram(). This currently means that its contents are migrated but as a ram block whose name is the empty string; in future it may mean they are not migrated at all. Use memory_region_init_ram() instead. Note that this is a a cross-version migration compatibility break for the "malta" machine. 2017-09-19cpu: make cpu_generic_init() abort QEMU on errorIgor Mammedov
Almost every user of cpu_generic_init() checks for returned NULL and then reports failure in a custom way and aborts process. Some users assume that call can't fail and don't check for failure, though they should have checked for it. In either cases cpu_generic_init() failure is fatal, so instead of checking for failure and reporting it various ways, make cpu_generic_init() report errors in consistent way and terminate QEMU on failure. 2017-08-02mips: Add KVM T&E segment support for TCGJames Hogan
MIPS KVM trap & emulate guest kernels have a different segment layout compared with traditional MIPS kernels, to allow both the user and kernel code to run from the user address segment without repeatedly trapping to KVM. QEMU currently supports this layout only for KVM, but its sometimes useful to be able to run these kernels in QEMU on a PC, so enable it for TCG too. This also paves the way for MIPS KVM VZ support (which uses the normal virtual memory layout) by abstracting whether user mode kernel segments are in use. 2017-08-02mips/malta: leave space for the bootmap after the initrdAurelien Jarno
Since commit 9768e2abf7 the initrd is loaded at the end of the low memory to avoid clash for the kernel relocation when kaslr is used. However this in turn conflicts with the bootmap memory that the kernel tries to place after initrd, but in low memory. The bootmap spans the whole usable physical address space. The machine can have at most 2GiB of memory, 256MiB of low memory mapped at 0x00000000, and 1792MiB of high memory mapped at 0x90000000. The biggest bootmap therefore corresponds to the adresses 0x00000000 -> 0xffffffff, which at 1 bit per 4kiB page corresponds to 128kiB in memory. Therefore reserve 128kiB after the initrd. Currently the malta board is loading the initrd just after the kernel. This doesn't work for kaslr enabled kernels, as the initrd ends-up being overwritten.
