2018-08-15block: Remove deprecated -drive option serialKevin Wolf
This reinstates commit b0083267444a5e0f28391f6c2831a539f878d424, which was temporarily reverted for the 3.0 release so that libvirt gets some extra time to update their command lines. The -drive option serial was deprecated in QEMU 2.10. It's time to remove it. Tests need to be updated to set the serial number with -global instead of using the -drive option. 2017-10-12ide: support reporting of rotation rateDaniel P. Berrange
The Linux kernel will query the ATA IDENTITY DEVICE data, word 217 to determine the rotations per minute of the disk. If this has the value 1, it is taken to be an SSD and so Linux sets the 'rotational' flag to 0 for the I/O queue and will stop using that disk as a source of random entropy. Other operating systems may also take into account rotation rate when setting up default behaviour. Mgmt apps should be able to set the rotation rate for virtualized block devices, based on characteristics of the host storage in use, so that the guest OS gets sensible behaviour out of the box. This patch thus adds a 'rotation-rate' parameter for 'ide-hd' device types. Signed-off-by: Daniel P. If no drive=... option is passed (for an empty drive), we don't only lack the BlockBackend normally created by parse_drive(), but we also need to manually call blk_attach_dev(). IDE does not support hot unplug, but if it did, qdev would take care to call the matching blk_detach_dev() on unplug. This fixes at least the bug that such devices didn't show up in query-block, and probably some more problems. 2017-02-28block: Add permissions to blk_new()Kevin Wolf
We want every user to be specific about the permissions it needs, so we'll pass the initial permissions as parameters to blk_new(). A user only needs to call blk_set_perm() if it wants to change the permissions after the fact. The permissions are stored in the BlockBackend and applied whenever a BlockDriverState should be attached in blk_insert_bs(). This does not include actually choosing the right set of permissions everywhere yet. Instead, the usual FIXME comment is added to each place and will be addressed in individual patches. The rerror/werror policies are implemented in the devices, so that's where they should be configured. In comparison to the old options in -drive, the qdev properties are only added to those devices that actually support them. If the option isn't given (or "auto" is specified), the setting of the BlockBackend is used for compatibility with the old options. For block jobs, "auto" is the same as "enospc". 2016-03-22include/qemu/osdep.h: Don't include qapi/error.hMarkus Armbruster
Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h, compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a similar job to this file and are under similar constraints." qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of 100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need. Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List. Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h, sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h comment quoted above similarly. This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all of them" to less than a third. Unfortunately, the number depending on qapi-types.h shrinks only a little. 2016-02-08qapi: Swap visit_* arguments for consistent 'name' placementEric Blake
JSON uses "name":value, but many of our visitor interfaces were called with visit_type_FOO(v, &value, name, errp). This can be a bit confusing to have to mentally swap the parameter order to match JSON order. It's particularly bad for visit_start_struct(), where the 'name' parameter is smack in the middle of the otherwise-related group of 'obj, kind, size' parameters! It's time to do a global swap of the parameter ordering, so that the 'name' parameter is always immediately after the Visitor argument. Additional reason in favor of the swap: the existing include/qjson.h prefers listing 'name' first in json_prop_*(), and I have plans to unify that file with the qapi visitors; listing 'name' first in qapi will minimize churn to the (admittedly few) qjson.h clients. Later patches will then fix docs, object.h, visitor-impl.h, and those clients to match. Done by first patching scripts/qapi*.py by hand to make generated files do what I want, then by running the following Coccinelle script to affect the rest of the code base: $ spatch --sp-file script `git grep -l '\bvisit_' -- '**/*.[ch]'` I then had to apply some touchups (Coccinelle insisted on TAB indentation in visitor.h, and botched the signature of visit_type_enum() by rewriting 'const char *const strings[]' to the syntactically invalid 'const char*const[] strings'). In b7eb0c9: hw/block-common: Factor out fall back to legacy -drive cyls=... 'blkconf_geometry()' was introduced, factoring out CHS limit validation code that was repeated in ide, scsi, virtio-blk. The original IDE CHS limit prior b7eb0c9 was 65535,16,255 (as per ATA CHS addressing). However the 'cyls_max' argument passed to 'blkconf_geometry' in the ide_dev_initfn case was accidentally set to 65536 instead of 65535. Fix, providing the correct 'cyls_max'. geometry: hd_geometry_guess function autodetects the drive geometry. This patch adds a block backend call, that probes the backing device geometry. If the inner driver method is implemented and succeeds (currently only for DASDs), the blkconf_geometry will pass-through the backing device geometry. Otherwise will fallback to old logic. blocksize: This patch initializes blocksize properties to 0. In order to set the property a blkconf_blocksizes was introduced. If user didn't set physical or logical blocksize, it will retrieve its value from a driver (only succeeds for DASD), otherwise it will set default 512 value. The blkconf_blocksizes call was added to all users of BlkConf. 2014-12-10ide: Check validity of logical block sizeKevin Wolf
Our IDE emulation can't handle logical block sizes other than 512. Check for it. The original assumption was that other values would silently be ignored (which is bad enough), but it's not quite true: The physical block size is exposed in IDENTIFY DEVICE as a multiple of the logical block size. Setting a logical block size therefore also corrupts the physical block size (4096/4096 doesn't silently downgrade to 4096/512, but 512/512). 2014-10-20blockdev: Fix blockdev-add not to create DriveInfoMarkus Armbruster
blockdev_init() always creates a DriveInfo, but only drive_new() fills it in. qmp_blockdev_add() leaves it blank. This results in a drive with type = IF_IDE, bus = 0, unit = 0. Screwed up in commit ee13ed1c. Board initialization code looking for IDE drive (0,0) can pick up one of these bogus drives. The QMP command has to execute really early to be visible. Not sure how likely that is in practice. Fix by creating DriveInfo in drive_new(). Block backends created by blockdev-add don't get one. Breaks the test for "has been created by qmp_blockdev_add()" in blockdev_mark_auto_del() and do_drive_del(), because it changes the value of dinfo && !dinfo->enable_auto_del from true to false. Simply test !dinfo instead. Leaves DriveInfo member enable_auto_del unused. Drop it. A few places assume a block backend always has a DriveInfo. Fix them up. 2014-10-20hw: Convert from BlockDriverState to BlockBackend, mostlyMarkus Armbruster
Device models should access their block backends only through the block-backend.h API. Convert them, and drop direct includes of inappropriate headers. Just four uses of BlockDriverState are left: * The Xen paravirtual block device backend (xen_disk.c) opens images itself when set up via xenbus, bypassing blockdev.c. I figure it should go through qmp_blockdev_add() instead. * Device model "usb-storage" prompts for keys. No other device model does, and this one probably shouldn't do it, either. * ide_issue_trim_cb() uses bdrv_aio_discard() instead of blk_aio_discard() because it fishes its backend out of a BlockAIOCB, which has only the BlockDriverState. * PC87312State has an unused BlockDriverState[] member. The patch is big, but all it really does is replacing dinfo->bdrv by blk_bs(blk_by_legacy_dinfo(dinfo)) The replacement is repetitive, but the conversion of device models to BlockBackend is imminent, and will shorten it to just blk_legacy_dinfo(dinfo). Line wrapping muddies the waters a bit. I also omit tests whether dinfo->bdrv is null, because it never is. 2014-08-29ide: Fix bootindex for bus_id > 9Markus Armbruster
We identify devices by their Open Firmware device paths. The encoding of bus numbers is incorrect: idebus_get_fw_dev_path() formats them in decimal, while SeaBIOS uses hexadecimal. With bus number > 9, SeaBIOS will miss the bootindex (lucky case), or apply it to another device (unlucky case). Bug can't bite right now: ich9-ahci has six ports, and the sysbus-ahci created by Calxeda Highbank has just one. Fix it anyway, by changing %d to %x. I couldn't find an Open Firmware spec covering this. For what it's worth, OVMF agrees with SeaBIOS. Because discard is now a host parameter, we can always fake it as enabled in the guest. This is an extension of the current choice to ignore "not supported" errors from the host when discard_granularity is set to nonzero. The default granularity is set to the logical block size or 4k, whichever is largest, because cluster sizes below 4k are rarely used and 4K is a typical block size for files. Since 39bffca2030950ef6efe57c2fac8327a45ae1015 (qdev: register all types natively through QEMU Object Model), TypeInfo as used in the common, non-iterative pattern is no longer amended with information and should therefore be const. Fix the documented QOM examples: sed -i 's/static TypeInfo/static const TypeInfo/g' include/qom/object.h Since frequently the wrong examples are being copied by contributors of new devices, fix all types in the tree: sed -i 's/^static TypeInfo/static const TypeInfo/g' */*.c sed -i 's/^static TypeInfo/static const TypeInfo/g' */*/*.c This also avoids to piggy-back these changes onto real functional changes or other refactorings. Use g_strdup rather than strdup, because the sole caller (qdev_get_fw_dev_path_helper) assumes it gets non-NULL, and dereferences it. Besides, in that caller, the allocated buffer is already freed with g_free, so it's better to allocate with a matching g_strdup. In one case, (scsi-bus.c) it was trivial, so I replaced an snprintf+ g_strdup combination with an equivalent g_strdup_printf use. This isn't quite orthodox. CHS translation is firmware configuration, communicated via the RTC's CMOS RAM, not a property of the disk. But it's best to treat it just like geometry anyway. Maintain backward compatibility exactly like for geometry: fall back to DriveInfo's translation, set with -drive trans=... Bonus: info qtree now shows the translation. Geometry needs to be qdev properties, because it belongs to the disk's guest part. Maintain backward compatibility exactly like for serial: fall back to DriveInfo's geometry, set with -drive cyls=... Do this only for ide-hd. ide-drive is legacy. ide-cd doesn't have a geometry. Bonus: info qtree now shows the geometry.
