2023-06-15xen-hvm: reorganize xen-hvm and move common function to xen-hvm-commonStefano Stabellini
This patch does following: 1. creates arch_handle_ioreq() and arch_xen_set_memory(). This is done in preparation for moving most of xen-hvm code to an arch-neutral location, move the x86-specific portion of xen_set_memory to arch_xen_set_memory. Also, move handle_vmport_ioreq to arch_handle_ioreq. 2. Pure code movement: move common functions to hw/xen/xen-hvm-common.c Extract common functionalities from hw/i386/xen/xen-hvm.c and move them to hw/xen/xen-hvm-common.c. These common functions are useful for creating an IOREQ server. xen_hvm_init_pc() contains the architecture independent code for creating and mapping a IOREQ server, connecting memory and IO listeners, initializing a xen bus and registering backends. Moved this common xen code to a new function xen_register_ioreq() which can be used by both x86 and ARM machines. Following functions are moved to hw/xen/xen-hvm-common.c: xen_vcpu_eport(), xen_vcpu_ioreq(), xen_ram_alloc(), xen_set_memory(), xen_region_add(), xen_region_del(), xen_io_add(), xen_io_del(), xen_device_realize(), xen_device_unrealize(), cpu_get_ioreq_from_shared_memory(), cpu_get_ioreq(), do_inp(), do_outp(), rw_phys_req_item(), read_phys_req_item(), write_phys_req_item(), cpu_ioreq_pio(), cpu_ioreq_move(), cpu_ioreq_config(), handle_ioreq(), handle_buffered_iopage(), handle_buffered_io(), cpu_handle_ioreq(), xen_main_loop_prepare(), xen_hvm_change_state_handler(), xen_exit_notifier(), xen_map_ioreq_server(), destroy_hvm_domain() and xen_shutdown_fatal_error() 3. Removed static type from below functions: 1. xen_region_add() 2. xen_region_del() 3. xen_io_add() 4. xen_io_del() 5. xen_device_realize() 6. xen_device_unrealize() 7. xen_hvm_change_state_handler() 8. cpu_ioreq_pio() 9. xen_exit_notifier() 4. 2023-03-07hw/xen: Rename xen_common.h to xen_native.hDavid Woodhouse
This header is now only for native Xen code, not PV backends that may be used in Xen emulation. Since the toolstack libraries may depend on the specific version of Xen headers that they pull in (and will set the __XEN_TOOLS__ macro to enable internal definitions that they depend on), the rule is that xen_native.h (and thus the toolstack library headers) must be included *before* any of the headers in include/hw/xen/interface. 2023-01-18bulk: Rename TARGET_FMT_plx -> HWADDR_FMT_plxPhilippe Mathieu-Daudé
The 'hwaddr' type is defined in "exec/hwaddr.h" as: hwaddr is the type of a physical address (its size can be different from 'target_ulong'). All definitions use the 'HWADDR_' prefix, except TARGET_FMT_plx: $ fgrep define include/exec/hwaddr.h #define HWADDR_H #define HWADDR_BITS 64 #define HWADDR_MAX UINT64_MAX #define TARGET_FMT_plx "%016" PRIx64 ^^^^^^ #define HWADDR_PRId PRId64 #define HWADDR_PRIi PRIi64 #define HWADDR_PRIo PRIo64 #define HWADDR_PRIu PRIu64 #define HWADDR_PRIx PRIx64 #define HWADDR_PRIX PRIX64 Since hwaddr's size can be *different* from target_ulong, it is very confusing to read one of its format using the 'TARGET_FMT_' prefix, normally used for the target_long / target_ulong types: $ fgrep TARGET_FMT_ include/exec/cpu-defs.h #define TARGET_FMT_lx "%08x" #define TARGET_FMT_ld "%d" #define TARGET_FMT_lu "%u" #define TARGET_FMT_lx "%016" PRIx64 #define TARGET_FMT_ld "%" PRId64 #define TARGET_FMT_lu "%" PRIu64 Apparently this format was missed during commit a8170e5e97 ("Rename target_phys_addr_t to hwaddr"), so complete it by doing a bulk-rename with: $ sed -i -e s/TARGET_FMT_plx/HWADDR_FMT_plx/g $(git grep -l TARGET_FMT_plx) Signed-off-by: Philippe Mathieu-Daudé <philmd@linaro.org> Message-Id: <20230110212947.34557-1-philmd@linaro.org> [thuth: Fix some warnings from checkpatch.pl along the way] Signed-off-by: Thomas Huth <thuth@redhat.com>
2022-06-29hw/i386/xen/xen-hvm: Inline xen_piix_pci_write_config_client() and remove itBernhard Beschow
xen_piix_pci_write_config_client() is implemented in the xen sub tree and uses PIIX constants internally, thus creating a direct dependency on PIIX. 2022-06-29hw/i386/xen/xen-hvm: Allow for stubbing xen_set_pci_link_route()Bernhard Beschow
The only user of xen_set_pci_link_route() is xen_piix_pci_write_config_client() which implements PIIX-specific logic in the xen namespace. This makes xen-hvm depend on PIIX which could be avoided if xen_piix_pci_write_config_client() was implemented in PIIX. g_new(T, n) is neater than g_malloc(sizeof(T) * n). It's also safer, for two reasons. One, it catches multiplication overflowing size_t. 2022-01-27xen-hvm: Allow disabling buffer_io_timerJason Andryuk
commit f37f29d31488 "xen: slightly simplify bufioreq handling" hard coded setting req.count = 1 during initial field setup before the main loop. This missed a subtlety that an early exit from the loop when there are no ioreqs to process, would have req.count == 0 for the return value. handle_buffered_io() would then remove state->buffered_io_timer. Instead handle_buffered_iopage() is basically always returning true and handle_buffered_io() always re-setting the timer. Restore the disabling of the timer by introducing a new handled_ioreq boolean and use as the return value. The named variable will more clearly show the intent of the code. 2021-11-01memory: make global_dirty_tracking a bitmaskHyman Huang(黄勇)
since dirty ring has been introduced, there are two methods to track dirty pages of vm. it seems that "logging" has a hint on the method, so rename the global_dirty_log to global_dirty_tracking would make description more accurate. dirty rate measurement may start or stop dirty tracking during calculation. this conflict with migration because stop dirty tracking make migration leave dirty pages out then that'll be a problem. make global_dirty_tracking a bitmask can let both migration and dirty rate measurement work fine. introduce GLOBAL_DIRTY_MIGRATION and GLOBAL_DIRTY_DIRTY_RATE to distinguish what current dirty tracking aims for, migration or dirty rate. 2019-08-16sysemu: Split sysemu/runstate.h off sysemu/sysemu.hMarkus Armbruster
sysemu/sysemu.h is a rather unfocused dumping ground for stuff related to the system-emulator. Evidence: * It's included widely: in my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h still triggers a recompile of some 1100 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h, down from 5400 due to the previous two commits). * It pulls in more than a dozen additional headers. Split stuff related to run state management into its own header sysemu/runstate.h. Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 850 objects. qemu/uuid.h also drops from 1100 to 850, and qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 4400 to 4200. Touching new sysemu/runstate.h recompiles some 500 objects. Since I'm touching MAINTAINERS to add sysemu/runstate.h anyway, also add qemu/main-loop.h. In my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h triggers a recompile of some 5400 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). hw/qdev-core.h includes sysemu/sysemu.h since recent commit e965ffa70a "qdev: add qdev_add_vm_change_state_handler()". This is a bad idea: hw/qdev-core.h is widely included. Move the declaration of qdev_add_vm_change_state_handler() to sysemu/sysemu.h, and drop the problematic include from hw/qdev-core.h. Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 1800 objects. qemu/uuid.h also drops from 5400 to 1800. A few more headers show smaller improvement: qemu/notify.h drops from 5600 to 5200, qemu/timer.h from 5600 to 4500, and qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 5500 to 5000. 2018-12-18qmp: query-current-machine with wakeup-suspend-supportDaniel Henrique Barboza
When issuing the qmp/hmp 'system_wakeup' command, what happens in a nutshell is: - qmp_system_wakeup_request set runstate to RUNNING, sets a wakeup_reason and notify the event - in the main_loop, all vcpus are paused, a system reset is issued, all subscribers of wakeup_notifiers receives a notification, vcpus are then resumed and the wake up QAPI event is fired Note that this procedure alone doesn't ensure that the guest will awake from SUSPENDED state - the subscribers of the wake up event must take action to resume the guest, otherwise the guest will simply reboot. At this moment, only the ACPI machines via acpi_pm1_cnt_init and xen_hvm_init have wake-up from suspend support. However, only the presence of 'system_wakeup' is required for QGA to support 'guest-suspend-ram' and 'guest-suspend-hybrid' at this moment. This means that the user/management will expect to suspend the guest using one of those suspend commands and then resume execution using system_wakeup, regardless of the support offered in system_wakeup in the first place. This patch creates a new API called query-current-machine [1], that holds a new flag called 'wakeup-suspend-support' that indicates if the guest supports wake up from suspend via system_wakeup. The machine is considered to implement wake-up support if a call to a new 'qemu_register_wakeup_support' is made during its init, as it is now being done inside acpi_pm1_cnt_init and xen_hvm_init. This allows for any other machine type to declare wake-up support regardless of ACPI state or wakeup_notifiers subscription, making easier for newer implementations that might have their own mechanisms in the future. This is the expected output of query-current-machine when running a x86 guest: {"execute" : "query-current-machine"} {"return": {"wakeup-suspend-support": true}} Running the same x86 guest, but with the --no-acpi option: {"execute" : "query-current-machine"} {"return": {"wakeup-suspend-support": false}} This is the output when running a pseries guest: {"execute" : "query-current-machine"} {"return": {"wakeup-suspend-support": false}} With this extra tool, management can avoid situations where a guest that does not have proper suspend/wake capabilities ends up in inconsistent state (e.g. https://github.com/open-power-host-os/qemu/issues/31). [1] the decision of creating the query-current-machine API is based on discussions in the QEMU mailing list where it was decided that query-target wasn't a proper place to store the wake-up flag, neither was query-machines because this isn't a static property of the machine object. This new API can then be used to store other dynamic machine properties that are scattered around the code ATM. 2018-05-31xen-hvm: stop faking I/O to access PCI config spacePaul Durrant
This patch removes the current hackery where IOREQ_TYPE_PCI_CONFIG requests are handled by faking PIO to 0xcf8 and 0xcfc and replaces it with direct calls to pci_host_config_read/write_common(). Doing so necessitates mapping BDFs to PCIDevices but maintaining a simple QLIST in xen_device_realize/unrealize() will suffice. NOTE: whilst config space accesses are currently limited to PCI_CONFIG_SPACE_SIZE, this patch paves the way to increasing the limit to PCIE_CONFIG_SPACE_SIZE when Xen gains the ability to emulate MCFG table accesses.
