TYPE_ISA_SERIAL The real SuperI/O chips emulated by QEMU allow for relocating and enabling or disabling their SuperI/O functions via software. So far this is not implemented. Make SerialState a device (the following patches will introduce IO/MM sysbus serial devices) None of the serial_{,mm}_init() callers actually free the returned value (even if they did, it would be quite harmless), so we can change the object allocation at will. However, the devices that embed SerialState must now have their field QOM-initialized manually (isa, pci, pci-multi). In my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h triggers a recompile of some 5400 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). hw/qdev-core.h includes sysemu/sysemu.h since recent commit e965ffa70a "qdev: add qdev_add_vm_change_state_handler()". This is a bad idea: hw/qdev-core.h is widely included. Move the declaration of qdev_add_vm_change_state_handler() to sysemu/sysemu.h, and drop the problematic include from hw/qdev-core.h. Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 1800 objects. qemu/uuid.h also drops from 5400 to 1800. A few more headers show smaller improvement: qemu/notify.h drops from 5600 to 5200, qemu/timer.h from 5600 to 4500, and qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 5500 to 5000. Many places including hw/qdev-properties.h (directly or via hw/qdev.h) actually need only hw/qdev-core.h. Include hw/qdev-core.h there instead. hw/qdev.h is actually pointless: all it does is include hw/qdev-core.h and hw/qdev-properties.h, which in turn includes hw/qdev-core.h. Replace the remaining uses of hw/qdev.h by hw/qdev-properties.h. While there, delete a few superfluous inclusions of hw/qdev-core.h. Touching hw/qdev-properties.h now recompiles some 1200 objects. Several other headers include it just to get VMStateDescription. The previous commit made that unnecessary. Include migration/vmstate.h only where it's still needed. Touching it now recompiles only some 1600 objects. 2018-04-26serial-isa: Use MAX_ISA_SERIAL_PORTS instead of MAX_SERIAL_PORTSPeter Maydell
The ISA serial port handling in serial-isa.c imposes a limit of 4 serial ports. This is because we only know of 4 IO port and IRQ settings for them, and is unrelated to the generic MAX_SERIAL_PORTS limit, though they happen to both be set at 4 currently. Use a new MAX_ISA_SERIAL_PORTS wherever that is the correct limit to be checking against. 2016-03-22include/qemu/osdep.h: Don't include qapi/error.hMarkus Armbruster
Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h, compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a similar job to this file and are under similar constraints." qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of 100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need. Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List. Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h, sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h comment quoted above similarly. This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all of them" to less than a third. Unfortunately, the number depending on qapi-types.h shrinks only a little.
