2020-01-24qdev: set properties with device_class_set_props()Marc-André Lureau
The following patch will need to handle properties registration during class_init time. Let's use a device_class_set_props() setter. spatch --macro-file scripts/cocci-macro-file.h --sp-file ./scripts/coccinelle/qdev-set-props.cocci --keep-comments --in-place --dir . @@ typedef DeviceClass; DeviceClass *d; expression val; @@ - d->props = val + device_class_set_props(d, val) Signed-off-by: Marc-André Lureau <marcandre.lureau@redhat.com> Message-Id: <20200110153039.1379601-20-marcandre.lureau@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>
2020-01-08chardev: Use QEMUChrEvent enum in IOEventHandler typedefPhilippe Mathieu-Daudé
The Chardev events are listed in the QEMUChrEvent enum. By using the enum in the IOEventHandler typedef we: - make the IOEventHandler type more explicit (this handler process out-of-band information, while the IOReadHandler is in-band), - help static code analyzers. This patch was produced with the following spatch script: @match@ expression backend, opaque, context, set_open; identifier fd_can_read, fd_read, fd_event, be_change; @@ qemu_chr_fe_set_handlers(backend, fd_can_read, fd_read, fd_event, be_change, opaque, context, set_open); @depends on match@ identifier opaque, event; identifier match.fd_event; @@ static -void fd_event(void *opaque, int event) +void fd_event(void *opaque, QEMUChrEvent event) { ... } Then the typedef was modified manually in include/chardev/char-fe.h. 2019-08-16Include hw/qdev-properties.h lessMarkus Armbruster
In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/qdev-properties.h triggers a recompile of some 2700 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). Many places including hw/qdev-properties.h (directly or via hw/qdev.h) actually need only hw/qdev-core.h. Include hw/qdev-core.h there instead. hw/qdev.h is actually pointless: all it does is include hw/qdev-core.h and hw/qdev-properties.h, which in turn includes hw/qdev-core.h. Replace the remaining uses of hw/qdev.h by hw/qdev-properties.h. While there, delete a few superfluous inclusions of hw/qdev-core.h. Touching hw/qdev-properties.h now recompiles some 1200 objects. 2019-08-16Include hw/irq.h a lot lessMarkus Armbruster
In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/irq.h triggers a recompile of some 5400 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). hw/hw.h supposedly includes it for convenience. Several other headers include it just to get qemu_irq and.or qemu_irq_handler. Move the qemu_irq and qemu_irq_handler typedefs from hw/irq.h to qemu/typedefs.h, and then include hw/irq.h only where it's still needed. Touching it now recompiles only some 500 objects. 2017-06-02char: move CharBackend handling in char-fe unitMarc-André Lureau
Move all the frontend struct and methods to a seperate unit. This avoids accidentally mixing backend and frontend calls, and helps with readabilty. Export qemu_chr_write(), and use a macro for qemu_chr_write_all() (nb: yes, CharBackend is for char frontend :) Signed-off-by: Marc-André Lureau <marcandre.lureau@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: Philippe Mathieu-Daudé <f4bug@amsat.org>

2016-09-13hw: replace most use of qemu_chr_fe_write with qemu_chr_fe_write_allDaniel P. Berrange
The qemu_chr_fe_write method will return -1 on EAGAIN if the chardev backend write would block. Almost no callers of the qemu_chr_fe_write() method check the return value, instead blindly assuming data was successfully sent. In most cases this will lead to silent data loss on interactive consoles, but in some cases (eg RNG EGD) it'll just cause corruption of the protocol being spoken. We unfortunately can't fix the virtio-console code, due to a bug in the Linux guest drivers, which would cause the entire Linux kernel to hang if we delay processing of the incoming data in any way. Fixing this requires first fixing the guest driver to not hold spinlocks while writing to the hvc device backend. Fixes bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/1586756 Signed-off-by: Daniel P.
