2019-07-05hw/arm: Replace global smp variables with machine smp propertiesLike Xu
The global smp variables in arm are replaced with smp machine properties. The init_cpus() and *_create_rpu() are refactored to pass MachineState. A local variable of the same name would be introduced in the declaration phase if it's used widely in the context OR replace it on the spot if it's only used once. No semantic changes. 2019-05-24hw/arm: Use object_initialize_child for correct reference countingPhilippe Mathieu-Daudé
As explained in commit aff39be0ed97: Both functions, object_initialize() and object_property_add_child() increase the reference counter of the new object, so one of the references has to be dropped afterwards to get the reference counting right. Otherwise the child object will not be properly cleaned up when the parent gets destroyed. Thus let's use now object_initialize_child() instead to get the reference counting here right. The header file hw/arm/arm.h now includes only declarations relating to hw/arm/boot.c functionality. Rename it accordingly, and adjust its header comment. The bulk of this commit was created via perl -pi -e 's|hw/arm/arm.h|hw/arm/boot.h|' hw/arm/*.c include/hw/arm/*.h In a few cases we can just delete the #include: hw/arm/msf2-soc.c, include/hw/arm/aspeed_soc.h and include/hw/arm/bcm2836.h did not require it. The Raspberry Pi boards have a physical memory map which does not allow for more than 1GB of RAM. 2018-04-26hw/arm/raspi: Don't bother setting default_cpu_typePeter Maydell
In commit 210f47840dd62, we changed the bcm2836 SoC object to always create a CPU of the correct type for that SoC model. This makes the default_cpu_type settings in the MachineClass structs for the raspi2 and raspi3 boards redundant. We didn't change those at the time because it would have meant a temporary regression in a corner case of error handling if the user requested a non-existing CPU type. The -cpu parse handling changes in 2278b93941d42c3 mean that it no longer implicitly depends on default_cpu_type for this to work, so we can now delete the redundant default_cpu_type fields. The BCM2836 uses a Cortex-A7, not a Cortex-A15. Update the device to use the correct CPU. https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/hardware/raspberrypi/bcm2836/QA7_rev3.4.pdf When the BCM2836 was introduced (bad5623690b) the Cortex-A7 was not available, so the very similar Cortex-A15 was used. The raspi3 has AArch64 CPUs, which means that our smpboot code for keeping the secondary CPUs in a pen needs to have a version for A64 as well as A32. Without this, the secondary CPUs go into an infinite loop of taking undefined instruction exceptions. 2018-03-19hw/arm/bcm2836: Hardcode correct CPU typePeter Maydell
Now we have separate types for BCM2386 and BCM2387, we might as well just hard-code the CPU type they use rather than having it passed through as an object property. This then lets us put the initialization of the CPU object in init rather than realize. Note that this change means that it's no longer possible on the command line to use -cpu to ask for a different kind of CPU than the SoC supports. This was never a supported thing to do anyway; we were just not sanity-checking the command line. This does require us to only build the bcm2837 object on TARGET_AARCH64 configs, since otherwise it won't instantiate due to the missing cortex-a53 device and "make check" will fail. 2018-03-19hw/arm/bcm2836: Create proper bcm2837 devicePeter Maydell
The bcm2837 is pretty similar to the bcm2836, but it does have some differences. Notably, the MPIDR affinity aff1 values it sets for the CPUs are 0x0, rather than the 0xf that the bcm2836 uses, and if this is wrong Linux will not boot. Rather than trying to have one device with properties that configure it differently for the two cases, create two separate QOM devices for the two SoCs. We use the same approach as hw/arm/aspeed_soc.c and share code and have a data table that might differ per-SoC. For the moment the two types don't actually have different behaviour. Our BCM2836 type is really a generic one that can be any of the bcm283x family. Rename it accordingly. We change only the names which are visible via the header file to the rest of the QEMU code, leaving private function names in bcm2836.c as they are. This is a preliminary to making bcm283x be an abstract parent class to specific types for the bcm2836 and bcm2837. 2018-03-19hw/arm/raspi: Don't do board-setup or secure-boot for raspi3Peter Maydell
For the rpi1 and 2 we want to boot the Linux kernel via some custom setup code that makes sure that the SMC instruction acts as a no-op, because it's used for cache maintenance. The rpi3 boots AArch64 kernels, which don't need SMC for cache maintenance and always expect to be booted non-secure. Don't fill in the aarch32-specific parts of the binfo struct. This patch adds a "raspi3" machine type, which can now be selected as the machine to run on by users via the "-M" command line option to QEMU. The machine type does *not* ignore memory transaction failures so we likely need to add some dummy devices later when people run something more complicated than what I'm using for testing. 2017-11-13hw: add .min_cpus and .default_cpus fields to machine_classEmilio G. Cota
max_cpus needs to be an upper bound on the number of vCPUs initialized; otherwise TCG region initialization breaks. Some boards initialize a hard-coded number of vCPUs, which is not captured by the global max_cpus and therefore breaks TCG initialization. Fix it by adding the .min_cpus field to machine_class. This commit also changes some user-facing behaviour: we now die if -smp is below this hard-coded vCPU minimum instead of silently ignoring the passed -smp value (sometimes announcing this by printing a warning). However, the introduction of .default_cpus lessens the likelihood that users will notice this: if -smp isn't set, we now assign the value in .default_cpus to both smp_cpus and max_cpus. IOW, if a user does not set -smp, they always get a correct number of vCPUs. This change fixes 3468b59 ("tcg: enable multiple TCG contexts in softmmu", 2017-10-24), which broke TCG initialization for some ARM boards. 2017-09-07hw/arm: Set ignore_memory_transaction_failures for most ARM boardsPeter Maydell
Set the MachineClass flag ignore_memory_transaction_failures for almost all ARM boards. This means they retain the legacy behaviour that accesses to unimplemented addresses will RAZ/WI rather than aborting, when a subsequent commit adds support for external aborts. The exceptions are: * virt -- we know that guests won't try to prod devices that we don't describe in the device tree or ACPI tables * mps2 -- this board was written to use unimplemented-device for all the ranges with devices we don't yet handle New boards should not set the flag, but instead be written like the mps2. Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h, compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a similar job to this file and are under similar constraints." qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of 100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need. Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List. Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h, sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h comment quoted above similarly. This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all of them" to less than a third. Unfortunately, the number depending on qapi-types.h shrinks only a little. The property channel driver now interfaces with the framebuffer device to query and set framebuffer parameters. As a result of this, the "get ARM RAM size" query now correctly returns the video RAM base address (not total RAM size), and the ram-size property is no longer relevant here. 2016-02-11bcm2835_property: implement "get board revision" queryStephen Warren
Return a valid value from the BCM2835 property mailbox query "get board revision". This query is used by U-Boot. Implementing it fixes the first obvious difference between qemu and real HW. The value returned is currently hard-coded to match the RPi2 I own. Other values are legal, e.g. different board manufacturer field values are likely to exist in the wild.
