2020-02-19alpha/dp264: use memdev for RAMIgor Mammedov
memory_region_allocate_system_memory() API is going away, so replace it with memdev allocated MemoryRegion. The later is initialized by generic code, so board only needs to opt in to memdev scheme by providing MachineClass::default_ram_id and using MachineState::ram instead of manually initializing RAM memory region. 2020-01-29hw/core/loader: Let load_elf() populate a field with CPU-specific flagsAleksandar Markovic
While loading the executable, some platforms (like AVR) need to detect CPU type that executable is built for - and, with this patch, this is enabled by reading the field 'e_flags' of the ELF header of the executable in question. The change expands functionality of the following functions: - load_elf() - load_elf_as() - load_elf_ram() - load_elf_ram_sym() The argument added to these functions is called 'pflags' and is of type 'uint32_t*' (that matches 'pointer to 'elf_word'', 'elf_word' being the type of the field 'e_flags', in both 32-bit and 64-bit variants of ELF header). Callers are allowed to pass NULL as that argument, and in such case no lookup to the field 'e_flags' will happen, and no information will be returned, of course. 2019-08-16Clean up inclusion of sysemu/sysemu.hMarkus Armbruster
In my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h triggers a recompile of some 5400 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). Almost a third of its inclusions are actually superfluous. Delete them. Downgrade two more to qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h, and move one from char/serial.h to char/serial.c. hw/semihosting/config.c, monitor/monitor.c, qdev-monitor.c, and stubs/semihost.c define variables declared in sysemu/sysemu.h without including it. The compiler is cool with that, but include it anyway. This doesn't reduce actual use much, as it's still included into widely included headers. The next commit will tackle that. Several other headers include it just to get qemu_irq and.or qemu_irq_handler. Move the qemu_irq and qemu_irq_handler typedefs from hw/irq.h to qemu/typedefs.h, and then include hw/irq.h only where it's still needed. Touching it now recompiles only some 500 objects. 2019-02-05elf: Add optional function ptr to load_elf() to parse ELF notesLiam Merwick
This patch adds an optional function pointer, 'elf_note_fn', to load_elf() which causes load_elf() to additionally parse any ELF program headers of type PT_NOTE and check to see if the ELF Note is of the type specified by the 'translate_opaque' arg. If a matching ELF Note is found then the specfied function pointer is called to process the ELF note. Passing a NULL function pointer results in ELF Notes being skipped. The first consumer of this functionality is the PVHboot support which needs to read the XEN_ELFNOTE_PHYS32_ENTRY ELF Note while loading the uncompressed kernel binary in order to discover the boot entry address for the x86/HVM direct boot ABI. Change them to spaces so that we don't confuse people. disas, standard-headers, linux-headers and libdecnumber are imported from other projects and probably should be exempted from the check. 2019-01-08hw/alpha/typhoon: Stop calling cpu_unassigned_access()Peter Maydell
The typhoon MemoryRegionOps callbacks directly call cpu_unassigned_access(), presumably as the old-fashioned way to provoke a CPU exception. This won't work since commit 6ad4d7eed05a1e235 when we switched Alpha over to the transaction_failed hook API, because now cpu_unassigned_access() is a no-op for Alpha. Make the MemoryRegionOps callbacks use the read_with_attrs and write_with_attrs hooks, so they can signal a failure that should cause a CPU exception by returning MEMTX_ERROR. 2017-12-05pci: Rename root bus initialization functions for clarityDavid Gibson
pci_bus_init(), pci_bus_new_inplace(), pci_bus_new() and pci_register_bus() are misleadingly named. They're not used for initializing *any* PCI bus, but only for a root PCI bus. Non-root buses - i.e. ones under a logical PCI to PCI bridge - are instead created with a direct qbus_create_inplace() (see pci_bridge_initfn()). 2017-09-19cpu: make cpu_generic_init() abort QEMU on errorIgor Mammedov
Almost every user of cpu_generic_init() checks for returned NULL and then reports failure in a custom way and aborts process. Some users assume that call can't fail and don't check for failure, though they should have checked for it. In either cases cpu_generic_init() failure is fatal, so instead of checking for failure and reporting it various ways, make cpu_generic_init() report errors in consistent way and terminate QEMU on failure. 2017-07-14memory/iommu: QOM'fy IOMMU MemoryRegionAlexey Kardashevskiy
This defines new QOM object - IOMMUMemoryRegion - with MemoryRegion as a parent. This moves IOMMU-related fields from MR to IOMMU MR. However to avoid dymanic QOM casting in fast path (address_space_translate, etc), this adds an @is_iommu boolean flag to MR and provides new helper to do simple cast to IOMMU MR - memory_region_get_iommu. The flag is set in the instance init callback. This defines memory_region_is_iommu as memory_region_get_iommu()!=NULL. This switches MemoryRegion to IOMMUMemoryRegion in most places except the ones where MemoryRegion may be an alias. 2017-02-21hw: Default -drive to if=ide explicitly where it worksMarkus Armbruster
Block backends defined with -drive if=ide are meant to be picked up by machine initialization code: a suitable frontend gets created and wired up automatically. if=ide drives not picked up that way can still be used with -device as if they had if=none, but that's unclean and best avoided. Unused ones produce an "Orphaned drive without device" warning. -drive parameter "if" is optional, and the default depends on the machine type. If a machine type doesn't specify a default, the default is "ide". Many machine types default to if=ide, even though they don't actually have an IDE controller. A future patch will change these defaults to something more sensible. To prepare for it, this patch makes default "ide" explicit for the machines that actually pick up if=ide drives: * alpha: clipper * arm/aarch64: spitz borzoi terrier tosa * i386/x86_64: generic-pc-machine (with concrete subtypes pc-q35-* pc-i440fx-* pc-* isapc xenfv) * mips64el: fulong2e * mips/mipsel/mips64el: malta mips * ppc/ppc64: mac99 g3beige prep * sh4/sh4eb: r2d * sparc64: sun4u sun4v Note that ppc64 machine powernv already sets an "ide" default explicitly. We've currently got 18 architectures in QEMU, and thus 18 target-xxx folders in the root folder of the QEMU source tree. More architectures (e.g. RISC-V, AVR) are likely to be included soon, too, so the main folder of the QEMU sources slowly gets quite overcrowded with the target-xxx folders. To disburden the main folder a little bit, let's move the target-xxx folders into a dedicated target/ folder, so that target-xxx/ simply becomes target/xxx/ instead.
