2021-06-28hw/alpha: Provide a PCI-ISA bridge device nodeJason Thorpe
- Move initialization of the ISA bus from typhoon_init() to clipper_init(); this apsect of device topology is really associated with the individual model, not the core logic chipset. typhoon_init() now returns the IRQ to use for the output of the ISA PIC. - In clipper_init(), instantiate an i82378 instance, and connect its PIC output to the ISA IRQ input provided by typhoon_init(). Remove the explicit instantiations of i8254 and i82374, as these devices are subsumed by the i82378. 2021-06-28hw/alpha: Set minimum PCI device ID to 1 to match Clipper IRQ mappingsJason Thorpe
Since we are emulating a Clipper device topology, we need to set the minimum PCI device ID to 1, as there is no IRQ mapping for a device at ID 0 (see sys_dp264.c:clipper_map_irq()). - Add a 'devfn_min' argument to typhoon_init(). Pass that argument along to pci_register_root_bus(). - In clipper_init(), pass PCI_DEVFN(1, 0) as the minimum PCI device ID/function. 2020-09-25load_elf: Remove unused address variables from callersBALATON Zoltan
Several callers of load_elf() pass pointers for lowaddr and highaddr parameters which are then not used for anything. This may stem from a misunderstanding that load_elf need a value here but in fact it can take NULL to ignore these values. Remove such unused variables and pass NULL instead from callers that don't need these. 2020-02-19alpha/dp264: use memdev for RAMIgor Mammedov
memory_region_allocate_system_memory() API is going away, so replace it with memdev allocated MemoryRegion. The later is initialized by generic code, so board only needs to opt in to memdev scheme by providing MachineClass::default_ram_id and using MachineState::ram instead of manually initializing RAM memory region. 2020-01-29hw/core/loader: Let load_elf() populate a field with CPU-specific flagsAleksandar Markovic
While loading the executable, some platforms (like AVR) need to detect CPU type that executable is built for - and, with this patch, this is enabled by reading the field 'e_flags' of the ELF header of the executable in question. The change expands functionality of the following functions: - load_elf() - load_elf_as() - load_elf_ram() - load_elf_ram_sym() The argument added to these functions is called 'pflags' and is of type 'uint32_t*' (that matches 'pointer to 'elf_word'', 'elf_word' being the type of the field 'e_flags', in both 32-bit and 64-bit variants of ELF header). Callers are allowed to pass NULL as that argument, and in such case no lookup to the field 'e_flags' will happen, and no information will be returned, of course. In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/hw.h triggers a recompile of some 2600 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). The previous commits have left only the declaration of hw_error() in hw/hw.h. This permits dropping most of its inclusions. Touching it now recompiles less than 200 objects. 2019-02-05elf: Add optional function ptr to load_elf() to parse ELF notesLiam Merwick
This patch adds an optional function pointer, 'elf_note_fn', to load_elf() which causes load_elf() to additionally parse any ELF program headers of type PT_NOTE and check to see if the ELF Note is of the type specified by the 'translate_opaque' arg. If a matching ELF Note is found then the specfied function pointer is called to process the ELF note. Passing a NULL function pointer results in ELF Notes being skipped. The first consumer of this functionality is the PVHboot support which needs to read the XEN_ELFNOTE_PHYS32_ENTRY ELF Note while loading the uncompressed kernel binary in order to discover the boot entry address for the x86/HVM direct boot ABI. 2017-09-19cpu: make cpu_generic_init() abort QEMU on errorIgor Mammedov
Almost every user of cpu_generic_init() checks for returned NULL and then reports failure in a custom way and aborts process. Some users assume that call can't fail and don't check for failure, though they should have checked for it. In either cases cpu_generic_init() failure is fatal, so instead of checking for failure and reporting it various ways, make cpu_generic_init() report errors in consistent way and terminate QEMU on failure. cpu_alpha_init() used to provide default fallback if invalid (i.e. non existent) cpu_model were provided. dp264 machine provides its own default so sole user of fallback is [bsd|linux]-user targets which specifies 'any' cpu model that fallbacks to "ev67" in cpu_alpha_init(). Push fallback handling into alpha_cpu_class_by_name() and replace cpu_alpha_init() with cpu_generic_init(). 2017-02-21hw: Default -drive to if=ide explicitly where it worksMarkus Armbruster
Block backends defined with -drive if=ide are meant to be picked up by machine initialization code: a suitable frontend gets created and wired up automatically. if=ide drives not picked up that way can still be used with -device as if they had if=none, but that's unclean and best avoided. Unused ones produce an "Orphaned drive without device" warning. -drive parameter "if" is optional, and the default depends on the machine type. If a machine type doesn't specify a default, the default is "ide". Many machine types default to if=ide, even though they don't actually have an IDE controller. A future patch will change these defaults to something more sensible. To prepare for it, this patch makes default "ide" explicit for the machines that actually pick up if=ide drives: * alpha: clipper * arm/aarch64: spitz borzoi terrier tosa * i386/x86_64: generic-pc-machine (with concrete subtypes pc-q35-* pc-i440fx-* pc-* isapc xenfv) * mips64el: fulong2e * mips/mipsel/mips64el: malta mips * ppc/ppc64: mac99 g3beige prep * sh4/sh4eb: r2d * sparc64: sun4u sun4v Note that ppc64 machine powernv already sets an "ide" default explicitly. 2016-03-04loader: Add data swap option to load-elfPeter Crosthwaite
Some CPUs are of an opposite data-endianness to other components in the system. Sometimes elfs have the data sections layed out with this CPU data-endianness accounting for when loaded via the CPU, so byte swaps (relative to other system components) will occur. The leading example, is ARM's BE32 mode, which is is basically LE with address manipulation on half-word and byte accesses to access the hw/byte reversed address. This means that word data is invariant across LE and BE32. This also means that instructions are still LE. The expectation is that the elf will be loaded via the CPU in this endianness scheme, which means the data in the elf is reversed at compile time. As QEMU loads via the system memory directly, rather than the CPU, we need a mechanism to reverse elf data endianness to implement this possibility. Switch all the uses of ld/st*_phys to address_space_ld/st*, except for those cases where the address space is the CPU's (ie cs->as). This was done with the following script which generates a Coccinelle patch. 2014-10-03ide: Update ide_drive_get to be HBA agnosticJohn Snow
Instead of duplicating the logic for the if_ide (bus,unit) mappings, rely on the blockdev layer for managing those mappings for us, and use the drive_get_by_index call instead. This allows ide_drive_get to work for AHCI HBAs as well, and can be used in the Q35 initialization. Lastly, change the nature of the argument to ide_drive_get so that represents the number of total drives we can support, and not the total number of buses. This will prevent array overflows if the units-per-default-bus property ever needs to be adjusted for compatibility reasons. We set default boot order "cad" in every single machine definition except "pseries" and "moxiesim", even though very few boards actually care for boot order, and "cad" makes sense for even fewer. Machines that care: * pc and its variants Accept up to three letters 'a', 'b' (undocumented alias for 'a'), 'c', 'd' and 'n'. Reject all others (fatal with -boot). * nseries (n800, n810) Check whether order starts with 'n'. Silently ignored otherwise. * prep, g3beige, mac99 Extract the first character the machine understands (subset of 'a'..'f'). Silently ignored otherwise. * spapr Accept an arbitrary string (vl.c restricts it to contain only 'a'..'p', no duplicates). * sun4[mdc] Use the first character. Silently ignored otherwise. Strip characters these machines ignore from their default boot order. For all other machines, remove the unused default boot order alltogether. Note that my rename of QEMUMachine member boot_order to default_boot_order and QEMUMachineInitArgs member boot_device to boot_order has a welcome side effect: it makes every use of boot orders visible in this patch, for easy review. At present, pci_nic_init() and pci_nic_init_nofail() assume that they will only create a NIC under the primary PCI root. As we add support for multiple PCI roots, that may no longer be the case. This patch adds a root bus parameter to pci_nic_init() (and updates callers accordingly) to allow the machine init code using it to specify the right PCI root for NICs created by old-style -net nic parameters.
