2022-10-27hw/core/resettable: fix reset level countingDamien Hedde
The code for handling the reset level count in the Resettable code has two issues: The reset count is only decremented for the 1->0 case. This means that if there's ever a nested reset that takes the count to 2 then it will never again be decremented. Eventually the count will exceed the '50' limit in resettable_phase_enter() and QEMU will trip over the assertion failure. The repro case in issue 1266 is an example of this that happens now the SCSI subsystem uses three-phase reset. Secondly, the count is decremented only after the exit phase handler is called. Moving the reset count decrement from "just after" to "just before" calling the exit phase handler allows resettable_is_in_reset() to return false during the handler execution. This simplifies reset handling in resettable devices. Typically, a function that updates the device state will just need to read the current reset state and not anymore treat the "in a reset-exit transition" as a special case. Note that the semantics change to the *_is_in_reset() functions will have no effect on the current codebase, because only two devices (hw/char/cadence_uart.c and hw/misc/zynq_sclr.c) currently call those functions, and in neither case do they do it from the device's exit phase methed. 2022-10-27target/arm: Implement FEAT_E0PDPeter Maydell
FEAT_E0PD adds new bits E0PD0 and E0PD1 to TCR_EL1, which allow the OS to forbid EL0 access to half of the address space. Since this is an EL0-specific variation on the existing TCR_ELx.{EPD0,EPD1}, we can implement it entirely in aa64_va_parameters(). This requires moving the existing regime_is_user() to internals.h so that the code in helper.c can get at it. FEAT_GTG is a change tho the ID register ID_AA64MMFR0_EL1 so that it can report a different set of supported granule (page) sizes for stage 1 and stage 2 translation tables. As of commit c20281b2a5048 we already report the granule sizes that way for '-cpu max', and now we also correctly make attempts to use unimplemented granule sizes fail, so we can report the support of the feature in the documentation. 2022-09-23ui/cocoa: Run qemu_init in the main threadAkihiko Odaki
This work is based on: https://patchew.org/QEMU/20220317125534.38706-1-philippe.mathieu.daude@gmail.com/ Simplify the initialization dance by running qemu_init() in the main thread before the Cocoa event loop starts. The secondary thread only runs only qemu_main_loop() and qemu_cleanup(). This fixes a case where addRemovableDevicesMenuItems() calls qmp_query_block() while expecting the main thread to still hold the BQL. Overriding the code after calling qemu_init() is done by dynamically replacing a function pointer variable, qemu_main when initializing ui/cocoa, which unifies the static implementation of main() for builds with ui/cocoa and ones without ui/cocoa. Let's use a more appropriate wording for this command line and config file option. The old ones are still accepted for compatibility reasons, but marked as deprecated now so that it could be removed in a future version of QEMU. This change is based on earlier patches from Philippe Mathieu-Daudé, with the idea for the new option name suggested by BALATON Zoltan. And while we're at it, replace the "?" in the help text with "help" since that does not have the problem of conflicting with the wildcard character of the shells. The architectural feature FEAT_ETS (Enhanced Translation Synchronization) is a set of tightened guarantees about memory ordering involving translation table walks: * if memory access RW1 is ordered-before memory access RW2 then it is also ordered-before any translation table walk generated by RW2 that generates a translation fault, address size fault or access fault * TLB maintenance on non-exec-permission translations is guaranteed complete after a DSB (ie it does not need the context synchronization event that you have to have if you don’t have FEAT_ETS) For QEMU’s implementation we don’t reorder translation table walk accesses, and we guarantee to finish the TLB maintenance as soon as the TLB op is done (the tlb_flush functions will complete at the end of the TLB, and TLB ops always end the TB because they’re sysreg writes). So we’re already compliant and all we need to do is say so in the ID registers for the 'max' CPU. 2022-07-22docs: Add caveats for Windows as the build platformBin Meng
Commit cf60ccc3306c ("cutils: Introduce bundle mechanism") introduced a Python script to populate a bundle directory using os.symlink() to point to the binaries in the pc-bios directory of the source tree. Commit 882084a04ae9 ("datadir: Use bundle mechanism") removed previous logic in pc-bios/meson.build to create a link/copy of pc-bios binaries in the build tree so os.symlink() is the way to go. However os.symlink() may fail [1] on Windows if an unprivileged Windows user started the QEMU build process, which results in QEMU executables generated in the build tree not able to load the default BIOS/firmware images due to symbolic links not present in the bundle directory. This commits updates the documentation by adding such caveats for users who want to build QEMU on the Windows platform.
