2021-07-18docs: Move deprecation, build and license info out of system/Peter Maydell
Now that we have a single Sphinx manual rather than multiple manuals, we can provide a better place for "common to all of QEMU" information like the deprecation notices, build platforms, license information, which we currently have in the system/ manual even though it applies to all of QEMU. Create a new directory about/ on the same level as system/, user/, etc, and move these documents there. 2021-07-09qemu-img: Require -F with -b backing imageEric Blake
Back in commit d9f059aa6c (qemu-img: Deprecate use of -b without -F), we deprecated the ability to create a file with a backing image that requires qemu to perform format probing. Qemu can still probe older files for backwards compatibility, but it is time to finish off the ability to create such images, due to the potential security risk they present. Update a couple of iotests affected by the change. 2021-07-09qcow2: Prohibit backing file changes in 'qemu-img amend'Eric Blake
This was deprecated back in bc5ee6da7 (qcow2: Deprecate use of qemu-img amend to change backing file), and no one in the meantime has given any reasons why it should be supported. Time to make change attempts a hard error (but for convenience, specifying the _same_ backing chain is not forbidden). Update a couple of iotests to match. There are no known users of this CPU anymore, and there are no binaries available online which could be used for regression tests, so the code has likely completely bit-rotten already. 2021-03-18migrate: remove QMP/HMP commands for speed, downtime and cache sizeDaniel P. Berrangé
The generic 'migrate_set_parameters' command handle all types of param. Furthermore the HMP commands are just shims to the QMP commands, so removing the latter breaks the former unless they get re-implemented. 2021-03-15usb: Un-deprecate -usbdevice (except for -usbdevice audio which gets removed)Thomas Huth
When trying to remove the -usbdevice option, there were complaints that "-usbdevice braille" is still a very useful shortcut for some people. Thus we never remove this option. Since it's not such a big burden to keep it around, and it's also convenient in the sense that you don't have to worry to enable a host controller explicitly with this option, we should remove it from he deprecation list again. However, there is one exception: "-usbdevice audio" should go away, since audio devices without "audiodev=..." parameter are also on the deprecation list and you cannot use "-usbdevice audio" with "audiodev". 2021-01-23hmp: remove "change vnc TARGET" commandPaolo Bonzini
The HMP command \"change vnc TARGET\" is messy: - it takes an ugly shortcut to determine if the option has an "id", with incorrect results if "id=" is not preceded by an unescaped comma. - it deletes the existing QemuOpts and does not try to rollback if the parsing fails (which is not causing problems, but only due to how VNC options are parsed) - because it uses the same parsing function as "-vnc", it forces the latter to not support "-vnc help". On top of this, it uses a deprecated QMP command, thus getting in the way of removing the QMP command. Since the usecase for the command is not clear, just remove it and send "change vnc password" directly to the QMP "change-vnc-password" command.
