2012-05-04ISCSI: Add support for thin-provisioning via discard/UNMAP and bigger LUNsRonnie Sahlberg
Update the configure test for libiscsi support to detect version 1.3 or later. Version 1.3 of libiscsi provides both READCAPACITY16 as well as UNMAP commands. Update the iscsi block layer to use READCAPACITY16 to detect the size of the LUN instead of READCAPACITY10. This allows support for LUNs larger than 2TB. Update to implement bdrv_aio_discard() using the UNMAP command. This allows us to use thin-provisioned LUNs from TGTD and other iSCSI targets that support thin-provisioning. 2012-05-01configure: Fix creation of symbolic links for MinGW toolchainStefan Weil
The MinGW toolchain on w32/w64 hosts does not create symbolic links, but implements 'ln -s' similar to 'cp -r'. In incremental out of tree builds, this resulted in files which were not updated when their counterparts in the QEMU source tree changed. Especially for Makefile* this happened very often. With this patch, the 'symlinked' files are now always updated for out of tree builds. Similar code was already used for the symbolic link of libcacard/Makefile. The symlink macro always removes the target before it is created again, therefore the rm command for libcacard/Makefile was redundant and is removed now. Macro symlink is also used with directories. To remove them on w32 hosts, a recursive rm is needed. v2: Quote arguments in shell function symlink, and also quote any argument which is passed to symlink and which contains macros. This should reduce the chance of accidents caused by rm -rf. Signed-off-by: Stefan Weil <sw@weilnetz.de> Signed-off-by: Stefan Hajnoczi <stefanha@linux.vnet.ibm.com>

2012-04-24config-host.mak: rename confdir to qemu_confdirEduardo Habkost
$confdir is a confusing name, as it's not clear if it's "the system config dir" or "the Qemus-specific directory inside the config dir". $qemu_confdir makes it more clear. The current C code that uses CONFIG_QEMU_CONFDIR should be safe, as now create_config generates the same #define name (CONFIG_QEMU_CONFDIR) for both "confdir" and "qemu_confdir" variables. 2012-04-24config-host.mak: rename datadir to qemu_datadirEduardo Habkost
Autoconf concept of "datadir" is supposed to be "$prefix/share", not "$prefix/share/PACKAGE", so using datadir for the Qemu-specific directory is confusing. The current C code that uses CONFIG_QEMU_DATADIR should be safe, as now create_config generates the same #define name (CONFIG_QEMU_DATADIR) for both "datadir" and "qemu_datadir" variables. 2012-04-24configure: rename $datadir to $qemu_datadirEduardo Habkost

2012-04-18tracetool: Rewrite infrastructure as python modulesLluís Vilanova
The tracetool script is written in shell and has hit several portability problems due to shell quirks or external tools across host platforms. Additionally the amount of string processing and lack of real data structures makes it tough to implement code generator backends for tracers that are more complex. This patch replaces the shell version of tracetool with a Python version. The new tracetool design is: scripts/tracetool.py - top-level script scripts/tracetool/backend/ - tracer backends live here (simple, ust) scripts/tracetool/format/ - output formats live here (.c, .h) There is common code for trace-events definition parsing so that backends can focus on generating code rather than parsing input. Support for all existing backends (nop, stderr, simple, ust, and dtrace) is added back in follow-up patches. 2012-04-12configure: Remove useless uses of ARCH_CFLAGSPeter Maydell
Remove some useless uses of ARCH_CFLAGS -- this variable was never set so will always be empty. The uses were accidental: in commit 0c439cbf8 Juan Quintela removed ARCH_CFLAGS in favour of CFLAGS (which in turn became QEMU_CFLAGS). However in commit be17dc90 a use of it was reintroduced (apparently accidentally) by Michael S. Tsirkin, and then I subsequently cut-n-pasted that into a number of other configure feature tests. 2012-03-31Fix conversion from lower to upper case with Turkish localeStefan Weil
Some locale settings let make fail or create wrong results because tr '[:lower:]' '[:upper:]' which is used to convert from lower to upper case depends on the locale. With locale tr_TR.UTF-8, lower case 'i' is not converted to 'I'. This results in wrong entries in config-host.h like these ones: #define CONFIG_QEMU_PREFiX "/usr/local" #define CONFIG_QEMU_BiNDiR "/usr/local/bin" This problem was reported by Emre Ersin. The same problem occurs when configure creates the target specific files config-target.mak. They get wrong declarations: TARGET_CRiS=y TARGET_i386=y TARGET_MiCROBLAZE=y TARGET_MiPS64=y TARGET_MiPS=y TARGET_UNiCORE32=y It is sufficient to restrict the conversion to the characters a-z. Using this explicit range avoids the dependency on the locale settings and is also shorter. v2: POSIX says that 'tr a-z' is unspecified outside of the POSIX locale, so we must set LC_ALL=C to make sure that we are using POSIX (hint from Eric Blake, thanks).
