2024-04-24doc: Suggest only necessary Qt packages for installation on OpenBSDHennadii Stepanov
The currently suggested `qt5` installs many unneeded dependencies, for example, `qtsensors`, `qtspeech` etc.
2024-02-26doc: Update OpenBSD build docs to 7.4Jesse Barton
Tested and used all build options on OpenBSD 7.4 with no issues. Added a note about referring to depends/README.md for detailed instructions on required dependencies. This was added in reference to a conversation in #29443
2023-04-11doc: update OpenBSD build docs for 7.3 (external signer support available)Sebastian Falbesoner
With OpenBSD 7.3, the waitid(2) system call is implemented (see https://github.com/openbsd/src/commit/8112871f19bbd25e86c93d0f901071ca2335a352). This means Boost.Process finally doesn't fail to compile anymore and we can remove the build hint about missing external signer support. Tested on my amd64 machine by reconfiguring / rebuilding master branch and successfully running the functional test wallet_signer.py.
2023-01-18contrib: remove install_db4.shfanquake
Now that we can build a bdb-only depends prefix, there is no need to maintain a bdb-building bash script, that does the same things as depends, except worse, as it's missing patches and workarounds. i.e #26623.
2022-06-07doc: Fix command in "OpenBSD Build Guide"Hennadii Stepanov
2022-05-20doc: remove passing `--disable-external-signer` in OpenBSD build guideSebastian Falbesoner
Since the Boost.Process usage check was added to the build system (commit abc057c6030b2a0ddab46835a7801054da677781), passing the option `--disable-external-signer` explicitly is not needed anymore on OpenBSD; The configure script will automatically detect that including <boost/process.hpp> leads to a compile error and disable external signer support accordingly.
2022-04-07lint: codespell 2.1.0fanquake
2022-03-28doc: update OpenBSD build docs for 7.0fanquake
Removes redundant notes for setting CC & CXX now that Clang is well and truly the base compiler. Cleans up the wallet docs, i.e #23446. Make the notes more similar to FreeBSD.
2022-01-03doc: remove CC_FOR_BUILD from OpenBSD build docfanquake
This is no-longer necessary after upstream libsecp256k1 changes.

2020-11-26doc: Add bash as an OpenBSD dependencyEmil Engler
If we require Python for the test framework, we should also require bash. It is required for the linters and other scripts and does not comes in a default OpenBSD installation.
2020-09-10Add OpenBSD instructions for building the Qt GUIgrubles
2020-07-28doc: set CC_FOR_BUILD when building on OpenBSDfanquake
Closes: #19559 While #19559 has been fixed upstream, it makes sense to not only recommend using `CC_FOR_BUILD`here until the fix is pulled in as part of our next libsecp update, but after discussing with Cory, he suggested we should be setting this on OpenBSD (which still has the an ancient GCC) regardless.
2020-03-18doc: mention MAKE=gmake workaround when building on a BSDemu

The `disable-dependency-tracking ` workaround is still required to run `./configure` (cc #14404). `gmake check -j4` pass. `src/bitcoind` runs and "starts" syncing. 2017-12-22doc: Update OpenBSD build instructions for 6.2Wladimir J. van der Laan
There is no more need to install a compiler. This simplifies instructions a lot.
2017-11-16[build] Add a script for installing db4James O'Beirne
Instead of maintaining not-easily-tested instructions for building BerkeleyDB in doc/build-unix.md, package the installation as a script in contrib/. This allows shared usage from a number of contexts, e.g. Docker. Thanks to @jonasschnelli, @laanwj for feedback.

2017-09-07Merge #10779: Create dependencies.mdWladimir J. van der Laan
e91b96192 Create dependencies.md, and link dependencies file from README & build docs (flack) Pull request description: As @fanquake mentioned in #8639, this should probably be a file in `doc/`, so I went ahead and pulled the issue text via the github API and dumped it into a file. No modifications made, except one spelling fix. This makes the info easier to find, and it will get a proper version history, too. - Bump "updated for" - Fix link to boost (haenet mirror is broken) - Upgrade boost version to 1.64
2017-02-07Update OpenBSD and FreeBSD build stepsWladimir J. van der Laan
Re-try with most recent versions, and use BDB_CFLAGS/BDB_LIBS to directly point at BerkeleyDB instead of CPPFLAGS hacks.
2016-08-28doc: Update build-openbsd for 0.13.0+ and OpenBSD 5.9Wladimir J. van der Laan
- Python 3 now supported. - Bump boost version to 1.61 - one boost patch no longer needed. - All checked with OpenBSD 5.9, except for the clang part, I left this as-is for someone adventurous. - Mention overriding resource limits, OpenBSD's default ulimit does not suffice for building Bitcoin Core with gcc 4.9.3.

2015-09-28doc: Add build guide for OpenBSD 5.7Wladimir J. van der Laan
Add a specific build guide for OpenBSD. This is slightly different than building for Linux due to different dependencies, and a compiler issue.
