README (1232B)
1 Nagios is a powerful monitoring system that enables organizations to 2 identify and resolve IT infrastructure problems before they affect critical 3 business processes. 4 5 Nagios requires a "nagios" user and group; create these before running the 6 SlackBuild script. Examples: 7 8 # groupadd -g 213 nagios 9 # useradd -u 213 -d /dev/null -s /bin/false -g nagios nagios 10 11 For some scripts to work, it is necessary to include the 'apache' user in 12 the nagios group. 13 14 For some functions (most notably the "map" function), you need to have X 15 installed on your server. You do not have to start X though, nagios just 16 needs some of the libraries and fonts. 17 18 This SlackBuild installs the basic nagios system in /var/www/htdocs/ 19 To change the location, set the DOCROOT variable: 20 # DOCROOT=/your/docroot/dir ./nagios.SlackBuild 21 22 For a useful setup, you will want to have nagios-plugins installed. 23 24 To configure nagios, some knowledge of httpd is required. Check the 25 included 'README.SLACKWARE' file for some basic setup instructions. The 26 include file for httpd is installed as /etc/httpd/extra/nagios.conf 27 28 Lots of information is available in the included documentation, and even 29 more can be found on the nagios site and wiki <http://wiki.nagios.org>.
