The device can not be instantiated on many non-x86 and just prints some error messages, e.g.: $ qemu-system-ppc64 -device vmxnet3 -M g3beige [vmxnet3][WR][vmxnet3_init_msix]: Failed to initialize MSI-X, error -95 [vmxnet3][WR][vmxnet3_pci_realize]: Failed to initialize MSI-X, configuration is inconsistent. Since vmxnet3 is a para-virtualized device that is only useful on x86, it should also only be enabled on the x86 targets. 2017-09-15net: Add SunGEM device emulation as found on Apple UniNorthBenjamin Herrenschmidt
This adds a simplistic emulation of the Sun GEM ethernet controller found in Apple ASICs. Currently we only support the Apple UniNorth 1.x variant, but the other Apple or Sun variants should mostly be a matter of adding PCI IDs options. We have a very primitive emulation of a single Broadcom 5201 PHY which is supported by the MacOS driver. This model brings out-of-the-box networking to MacOS 9, and all versions of OS X I tried with the mac99 platform. Learn to compile out vhost-user (net, scsi & upcoming users). Keep it enabled by default on non-win32, that is assumed to be POSIX. Fail if trying to enable it on win32. When trying to make a vhost-user netdev, it gives the following error: -netdev vhost-user,id=foo,chardev=chr-test: Parameter 'type' expects a netdev backend type And similar error with the HMP/QMP monitors. While at it, rename CONFIG_VHOST_NET_TEST CONFIG_VHOST_USER_NET_TEST since it's a vhost-user specific variable. The current CONFIG_IVSHMEM is confusing, because it looks like it's a flag for "do we have ivshmem support?", but actually it's a flag for "is the ivshmem PCI device being compiled?" (and implicitly "do we have ivshmem support?" is tested with CONFIG_EVENTFD). Rename it to CONFIG_IVSHMEM_DEVICE to clear this confusion up; shortly we will add a new CONFIG_IVSHMEM which really does indicate whether the host can support ivshmem. Implement a model of the Serial Communication Controller (SCC) found in MPS2 FPGA images. The primary purpose of this device is to communicate with the Motherboard Configuration Controller (MCC) which is located on the MPS board itself, outside the FPGA image. This is used for programming the MPS clock generators. The SCC also has some basic ID registers and an output for the board LEDs. Model the ARM MPS2/MPS2+ FPGA based development board. The MPS2 and MPS2+ dev boards are FPGA based (the 2+ has a bigger FPGA but is otherwise the same as the 2). Since the CPU itself and most of the devices are in the FPGA, the details of the board as seen by the guest depend significantly on the FPGA image. We model the following FPGA images: "mps2_an385" -- Cortex-M3 as documented in ARM Application Note AN385 "mps2_an511" -- Cortex-M3 'DesignStart' as documented in AN511 They are fairly similar but differ in the details for some peripherals. This commit introduces a vhost-user device for SCSI. This is based on the existing vhost-scsi implementation, but done over vhost-user instead. It also uses a chardev to connect to the backend. Unlike vhost-scsi (today), VMs using vhost-user-scsi can be live migrated. To use it, start Qemu with a command line equivalent to: qemu-system-x86_64 \ -chardev socket,id=vus0,path=/tmp/vus.sock \ -device vhost-user-scsi-pci,chardev=vus0,bus=pci.0,addr=... A separate commit presents a sample application linked with libiscsi to provide a backend for vhost-user-scsi. 2017-04-24net: add FTGMAC100 supportCédric Le Goater
The FTGMAC100 device is an Ethernet controller with DMA function that can be found on Aspeed SoCs (which include NCSI). It is fully compliant with IEEE 802.3 specification for 10/100 Mbps Ethernet and IEEE 802.3z specification for 1000 Mbps Ethernet and includes Reduced Media Independent Interface (RMII) and Reduced Gigabit Media Independent Interface (RGMII) interfaces. It adopts an AHB bus interface and integrates a link list DMA engine with direct M-Bus accesses for transmitting and receiving packets. It has independent TX/RX fifos, supports half and full duplex (1000 Mbps mode only supports full duplex), flow control for full duplex and backpressure for half duplex. The FTGMAC100 also implements IP, TCP, UDP checksum offloads and supports IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tag insertion and removal. It offers high-priority transmit queue for QoS and CoS applications This model is backed with a RealTek 8211E PHY which is the chip found on the AST2500 EVB. It is complete enough to satisfy two different Linux drivers and a U-Boot driver. Not supported features are : - IEEE 802.1Q VLAN - High Priority Transmit Queue - Wake-On-LAN functions The code is based on the Coldfire Fast Ethernet Controller model. Introduce support for emulating the MIPS Boston development board. The Boston board is built around an FPGA & 3 PCIe controllers, one of which is connected to an Intel EG20T Platform Controller Hub. It is used during the development & debug of new CPUs and the software intended to run on them, and is essentially the successor to the older MIPS Malta board. This patch does not implement the EG20T, instead connecting an already supported ICH-9 AHCI controller. Whilst this isn't accurate it's enough for typical stock Boston software (eg. Linux kernels) to work with hard disks given that both the ICH-9 & EG20T implement the AHCI specification. Boston boards typically boot kernels in the FIT image format, and this patch will treat kernels provided to QEMU as such. When loading a kernel directly, the board code will generate minimal firmware much as the Malta board code does. This firmware will set up the CM, CPC & GIC register base addresses then set argument registers & jump to the kernel entry point. Alternatively, bootloader code may be loaded using the bios argument in which case no firmware will be generated & execution will proceed from the start of the boot code at the default MIPS boot exception vector (offset 0x1fc00000 into (c)kseg1). Currently real Boston boards are always used with FPGA bitfiles that include a Global Interrupt Controller (GIC), so the interrupt configuration is only defined for such cases. Therefore the board will only allow use of CPUs which implement the CPS components, including the GIC, and will otherwise exit with a message. 2017-02-06Allow ISA bus to be configured outDavid Gibson
Currently, the code to handle the legacy ISA bus is always included in qemu. However there are lots of platforms that don't include ISA legacy devies, and quite a few that have never used ISA legacy devices at all. This patch allows the ISA bus code to be disabled in the configuration for platforms where it doesn't make sense. For now, the default configs are adjusted to include ISA on all platforms including PCI: anything with PCI can at least in principle add an i82378 PCI->ISA bridge. Also, CONFIG_IDE_CORE which is already in pci.mak requires ISA support. We also explicitly enable ISA on some other non-PCI platforms which include ISA devices: moxie, sparc and unicore32. We may want to pare this down in future. The platforms that will lose ISA by default are: cris, lm32, microblazeel, microblaze, openrisc, s390x, tricore, xtensaeb, xtensa. 2017-02-06Split serial-isa into its own config optionDavid Gibson
At present, the core device model code for 8250-like serial ports (serial.c) and the code for serial ports attached to ISA-style legacy IO (serial-isa.c) are both controlled by the CONFIG_SERIAL variable. There are lots and lots of embedded platforms that have 8250-like serial ports but have never had anything resembling ISA legacy IO. Therefore, split serial-isa into its own CONFIG_SERIAL_ISA option so it can be disabled for platforms where it's not appropriate. For now, I enabled CONFIG_SERIAL_ISA in every default-config where CONFIG_SERIAL is enabled, excepting microblaze, or32, and xtensa. As best as I can tell, those platforms never used legacy ISA, and also don't include PCI support (which would allow connection of a PCI->ISA bridge and/or a southbridge including legacy ISA serial ports). 2017-01-31pxb: Restrict to x86David Gibson
The PCI Expander Bridge (PXB) device is essentially a hack to allow different PCIe devices to be assigned to different NUMA nodes on x86. Each PXB is sort-of a separate PCI host bridge, except that its config space is shared with the config space of the main PCI host bridge, rather than being independent. This is only necessary if the platform doesn't (easily) allow truly independent PCI host bridges. AFAIK that's just x86. This patch makes it possible to configure PXB out of the build, and adjusts the default configs so it's only included on x86 targets.
